Nice rig, n1ce_hat!
I like the way you did the lighting.
thanks..
my old rig was STUFFED with 80mm led fans, and i grew tired of having a lantern beside me when i nerded it out at night..
actually, i have two blue cold cathodes in my case right now but i only use one of them because 1) its way too bright & 2) they do get pretty hot..

i ordered my Plextor SATA DVD-Burner like a LONG time ago on ebay, and it should be here sometime this week.. so less IDE cables in my case very shortly, and once i get my raptor (about a month) i'll be IDE-less.. thank god.. i bent a pin on my 160GB WD IDE last nite and i wanted to stab the inventor of PATA in the face. [i kid, i kid..]

Water cooling is on the way! I did a lot of cable-hiding last night, i finally got my SATA Plextor DVD-RW drive (gets ride of an IDE cable..), and once i get another SATA hard drive, i wont have any IDE cables at all, then i'll take another pic and post it.. Right now it looks pretty slick anyway, and i gotta get a cable sleeving kit and make the rest of those plain cables snazzy..

Can you tell me if those mesh grills are screwed on (vs riveted) in case someone wanted to paint them a different color?

Here's a picture of the inside of my side panel. It wouldn't be very hard at all to take off the mesh (just bend the metal back?). Careful not to break the little tabs.
Also, the front mesh on the case has 4 screws holding it in. Im not sure how the top one is held in there but i imagine it would follow a similar meathod. Pretty sure it has screws up there.

Yeah it's like 630am here.. i've had an interesting week, i usually go to bed at about 5:30am, sleep till 2:00pm, then lounge around all day. I recently got fired (it was VERY bad), and i start my new job (at a gas station..

) on monday at 7:00am, so i have to somehow change my hours around. I went to bed at midnight last night and i woke up today at 6am fully rested. If i can do this till monday i should be fine..

Yeah it should be fun. It's like directly across the street from my house (a stone's throw away) and like half the staff are extremely hot girls, so the low pay doesnt seem so bad.

i'm not big on "block busters". i like a plot, but character depth and the true reality of life is a much better movie to me. and napoleon's brother was such a nerd, lol, it was great.

Anyone ever mod an acrylic case from 80mm fans to 120mm? I cut an 80mm fan hole into my Centurian's window, but that is much thinner than my acrylic case. How did it come out and what did you use?

I would recommend a Dermel roto-zip tool, but be careful with it. Cut with the base of the bit, not the tip of it, otherwise the bit will bend and wander as it's spinning.

OK, I used the regular round cutting dik on the window, what melting the acrylic? I guess I should go slow. Have you actually performed this mod? I was also wondering if anyone tried putting a window in an Antec P180?

Oooh, no, not the cutting disc. And not a regular Dremel either. The Roto-zip is a special Dremel, and it comes with a circle cutting jig. Once you have one of those, use the spiral cutting bit. It kind of looks like a router bit. I'm sorry, I should've been more specific.

I know rotozip, very good, I used to hang drywall for 7 years, so we used them to cut out all our outlets, highats, windows, etc. thanks for the info, I think I got an old Roto-Zip laying around here somewhre just gotta get new brushes for it, stil got bits too. Should I use regular non-guiding bits, self-guiding bits or the tile bits?

I'm actually not familiar with the different types of bits. The ones I use are just like a straight rod that's got cutters on the sides of it. You might want to try each type on some scrap and see what works best.

A question for you and others that have modded a case to create a window. I’ve notice screws thru the case into the plexiglass (I’m assuming plexiglass ) in all the ones I’ve seen photos of. Is that necessary? I might do this to my case someday, and was figuring on glueing the plexiglass to the case. Are there reasons one wouldn’t want to glue it in?
What did you use to cut the case? Dremel? Grinder?
General Septem
Apr 19 2006, 06:29 PM
I think the screws/bolts make the mod look better than simply gluing it in, but that's just me. What would you use, anyway, VHB tape? Other than maybe epoxy I can't think of anything that would bond plastic to metal. Or perhaps silicone adhesive.
Blooz1_merged
Apr 19 2006, 06:31 PM
There's many ways to attach a window - screws, bolts/nuts, glue, double sided tape, velcro - on and on!
As to cutting a window, you can use a jigsaw, or a Dremel with a reinforced cutoff wheel will also work fine. Just take your time, let the tool do the work!

I used it to secure my Internal LCD. It's designed to hold 5 pounds and adheres well to rough surfaces.
