CRt!!!! ewwwwww.

I have yet to find an LCD that has the same quality as a decent CRT, I won't switch until that happens, and certainly not until they are a halfway affordable solution.

...Unless of course I'm forced into using a smaller desk than I like...

By the way, you've been here long enough to know the rules on sigs man, that was FAR too large. Get it fixed.

I'm using one of those rotatable LCDs. It's 16:9. The resolution is comparable to my old CRT, converted to 16:9 of course (1680 X 1050 compred to the 1600 X 1200 on my old CRT). However, before I installed the NVIDIA drivers I had the resolution on the CRT considerably higher than 1600 X 1200. Why it limited my resolution to that after I installed the drivers when the monitor could handle it is unknown, but one thing is for sure - this monitor cannot handle a single pixel over 1680 X 1050 or it will just black out. It won't even display part of the screen and move as you move your cursor, like it did with my CRT; it jut blacks out, and the only way you can set it back is by running downstairs, lugging the gigantic old CRT back up, hooking up your computer (naturally you have to shut down the computer, or else damage your monitor - even though it's a serial connector and supposed to hot swap), set the resolution back down, hook the LCD back up (naturally shutting down the computer again), boot back up, and then lug the big heavy CRT back downstairs. But, at 1680 X 1050 the picture quality is very good, it doesn't take up a lot of desk space, and it's quite light which is nice since I have to move it a lot. I would go so far as to say it's a better picture than the CRT, which was a flat screen Dell 19".

Yeah but you must remember Beavis has a 30" Dell

alright, had to drop a few pics before I throw in some danger den liquid cooling. Here's my comp on air....reasonably silent too. Gotta love silverstone. Spent the day building some cables and rewiring...trying to make it as clean as possible.

Here's a shot to show how big this beauty is...sorry only measurement i had was alcohol :-)

And finally a side shot....i'll drop some more pics when I liquid cool it this week.

Please resize the images to a height of no more than 600 pixels and repost them back here. Thank you. AceGoober

Love that Antec Case, how much is that agan?
danio
i love it too, it cost about 150 canadian at the time of purchase but you can probably get it for lower now
ReelFiles
I went to a small Computer Show this weekend, actually it kind of sucked, I have a better time buying online. I saw that Antec case there for $150US. was that a good deal?
they also had a case there that looked like a G5 clone for $69, looked pretty good.

Some of you may remember my SIlverstone from an earlier thread.
http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...ght=Silverstone
Old Gallery is here http://www.uploadit.org/gallery/13008

Sometimes you DO have too many rigs. My Silverstone rig had been sitting in my bedroom and was very seldom used. Money was very tight but I still wanted to upgrade.
So I began selling off components and parts with the goal of ending up with one KILLER Machine. So this is what I wound up doing.

Silverstone TJ-067 Info here: http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-tj06.htm
*Removed front fan filter (thanks to RedBeaver for the suggestion)
*Replaced CoolerMaster fans with ThermalTake Smart Fans
*Rear fan holder rotated 90 degrees as it was necessary to mount Von Karajan module without hitting the fan.
*Added handles to the top. This is a steel case with Aluminum front panel.
*Sleeved and wire tied all visible wires. I hid the rest of them.

*Made Custom Flat Cable for Floppy Connection on Venus motherboard
*Changed DFI Stock chipset fan to Evercool VC-RE chipset fan TWICE (1st one D.O.A.)
Info here: http://www.bigbruin.com/html/evercool-vcre.htm
*Added 2x80mm Antec 80mm fans under HDD cage in brushed aluminum housing (I’m trying to keep One (1) Terabyte of storage cool)
*Ran all wires and connectors under the motherboard
*Spent hours on cable management (it was probably more like days)

*Added Vantec Silver Fan Buss in 5.25” Bay to control 80mm and 120mm front intakes, rear 120mm exhaust, and XP-90 heatsink fan. All of the fans are Thermaltake A201X series smart fans with Blue LEDs –
Info here: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/2005/dcfans/led/bluesmart.htm
(Note: I’ll be modding a Silverstone blank panel as the Vantec writing bugs me.)
*Added Matrix Orbital MX421 and customized LCDC software (Reprogrammed completely) Info here: http://www.matrixorbital.com and here www.lcdc.cc
*Added Dallas One-wire Thermal Probes (Accurate to within 0.5 degrees C)
pdf here: http://pdfserv.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/DS18S20.pdf
Examples of the Matrix Orbital’s display capabilities can be seen here:
http://www.uploadit.org/gallery/13039

*Added Custom STATUS LEDs on front panel – (They are multi-mode and work in conjunction with the MX421) How do they work? When rig is powered ON as follows:

LED1 Status
OFF/Connected to Internet
ON/Disconnected from Internet
FLASH/Chipset Fan not running
STROBE/CPU Fan not running
ON/STROBE/OFF (sequential) A voltage rail has dropped more than 1%)

LED 2 Status
OFF/CPU Temp below 35C
ON/Temp above 35C
FLASH/CPU Temp above 40C
STROBE/CPU Temp above 45C
ON/STROBE/OFF (sequential) Temp above 50C

LED 3 Status
OFF/Temp below 45C
ON/Temp above 45C
FLASH/Temp above 50C
STROBE/Temp above 55C
ON/STROBE/OFF (sequential) Temp above 60C
These are High Output 5mm Blue LED in a chrome housing so they literally throw a laser like beam of light onto the wall across the room. Pretty hard to miss even sitting off axis.

*Added Dallas One-wire Thermal probes (one on Memory and one on Raptor with Chomerics T414 Thermal Tape) All information on the Matrix Orbital MX421is also displayed on the “Virtual Display” on one of the monitors.
*Added 6.5” Farenheit LCD Internal display as second monitor
http://camerasandelectronics.com/item.asp?item=fart6502hrs
*Added 15” Panasonic LCD HDTV for 3rd Monitor (Component In and TV).
Info here: http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/panasonic-...ic-tc15lt1.html
*Added Silver Floppy Drive to front panel. Unfortunately they are still a necessity.

*Changed DFI LanParty Ultra-B to DFI NF4 Venus
*Changed ViperJohn modded 9800Pro to Dual XFX 7800GTs (PV-T70G-UDF7) in SLI (530/1250) with Arctic Silencer 5, Rev 3s for Cooling. Info here: http://www.xfxforce.com/web/product/listCo...urationId=56414
*Changed XP-2600 Mobile to Opteron 146
Info here: http://www.amdcompare.com/us%2Den/opteron/Default.aspx
*Changed Thermalright SLK900A to Thermalright XP-90
Info here: http://www.thermalright.com/product_default.htm
*Changed 2x256 Mushkin PC3500 Black Level II to 2x1024G Mushkin XP4000 Black
Info here: http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/memory_detail.asp?ID=245
*Changed 2x36G Raptors to 2x74G Raptors Specs here: http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/....asp?DriveID=65
*Raptors are connected via Secure Connect cables
http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/...s.asp?ProdID=74

Evercool BC-RE replaced DFI Chipset Fan. I've been lucky and never had a bad "Mag Lev" fan during 8 builds. The Evercool was "frozen" out of the box. So I wound up putting it in twice biggrin.gif

Looks gorgeous! How're you gonna get all three monitors outputting together...especially with Sli?
soundx98
hehehe, only drawback to SLI so far is only ONE monitor can be on.
That's why I have the Panasonic TV so close. I'm saving shot's of the LCD for Kandoo's thread., Working on a PCI card for the other monitors Dan.

Outstanding Soundx98 Simply Marrrrrvelous !!

I can't run dual screen once I get my second card? Even if I plug them into the same card?
that's bogus, I need my dually setup.

What a sweet rig, Carl!

I gotta say though, I know y'all like those MNPCtech billet handles, but I think the ones you've got now look very stylish due to the simplicity of the design.
soundx98
@ owcraftsman - Thank you very much my brutha! Was a fun (but long) build smile.gif

@ ReelFiles - Well, Having only one monitor available in SLI was actually a surprize to me as well. But then again it's dang easy to "unckeck" SLI as well. I don't use it all the time because I do like using the additional screens.

@ blooz1 - hehehe, you saw me drooling for the MNPC handles didn't you? Yes, I was sad they were out of stock but who knows. He has some very cool products on the site, too bad so many are sold out. I would bet he makes larger "runs" next time.

I did have some additional thoughts:
I need to add some type of "brace" underneath the top as well. Even though it is steel it is going to bend. But a future project for sure.

I had cut a 1/4" piece of mirror plexiglas for the bottom but the clearance didn't make it. The board just rests too close to the bottom (I can barely unlock the the RAM). I need to find something thinner or will wind up using some mirror tape. I just think it gives a kewl look of depth.

I've got some UV Reactive Yellow sleeving left over and have been eyeballing the fan power wire on the 7800GTs. I think a touch of color would be unique and the blue LED fans throw out enough of the UV spectrum to light them up. Might be a little ghaye perhaps but I can always remove it.

I like the Vantec Nexus controller a lot. Min is 7v and max is 12v so I can't accidently turn the fans off. I've got extra Silverstone bay panels but it's really tough getting holes exactly where you want them. Kinda in a quandry here as the MX421 has the capabilty of controlling the Fan speeds as well. I could even set them to increase/decrease with temperature. (And I am still figuring out at what point additional RPMs/noise cease being effective). I think I DO have just enough space to mount the LEDs on the main MX421 faceplate. Hell of a lot of disassembly to cut holes and really don't have the right tools at my disposal. I could also use the blank 3.5" bay.

But if I did find the way to "lose" the space the Status LED panel and fan controller take up, the 6.5" Monitor screen fits "Exactly" behind a double bay opening! Unfortunately the controls would be hidden. Since it has a remote control I could either add aother "eye" or drill a hole so that it could receive the IR signal. It would look so kewl but then again I am used to having one in the side of my cases. Picture of screen is here http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...248&postcount=1
(This is the Kenwood version, the Farenheit I am using also has a headphone output and dual A/V inputs instead of a single A/V input.).

I'm probably going to put it up for sale as my sons keep whining about no food in the fridge. As always, my rigs seem to be under constant construction. But I'm glad dudes are enjoying it. And yes, I still have access to the CMOS jumper. But I do plan on extending it in case I need to use it and cut down on the hassle factor.

I think you've got a bad [img] tag there man...

do i have to put something underneat the mobo ?
ReelFiles
Use the foam that came with the mobo, or the box it came in. Wood is not conductive, but you won't scratch up your desk and it's a bit safer.
dejv
but with the foam i think it would generate more heat ?
soundx98
I'm probably just being bitchy this morning but how about getting "Back on Topic".

Read the frikkin thread title will Ya.

Most of us build our rigs outside the case before me put them in (on the box, foam, wood, anti-static bag, etc), so we aren't seeing anything new here by any means.

Most folks that come to this thread are looking for ideas to mod their case and not to see the "rebels" setups. (Nice wood, I recommend walnut for better heat dissipation)

So how about posting some quality pics or something unique about the setup.
Enough of the thread crapping and hints on illegal activities.

End Rant, gonna have some coffee and hope it puts me in a better mood. laterz

Haha, I've seen several cardboard box mods before. Having it out on the desk has really given me the chance to get to know the computer. Like specifically what's making noise. My six-year old HDD is making a wailing noise and the fan on the video card is basically the loudest fan on my system. The fan I have on my HDDs is the runner up, but it's not that bad and only temporary until I get my case built, which will be as soon as I have time to work on it.

dejev, how did you put the PCI cards in the machine with it on the flat desk like that? I would think the tabs on the back of the cards would make it impossible.
