I recently moved my rig into the new cm690 I bought. When I hit the power button the only sign of life is a buzzing type sound coming from the psu for about 5 seconds. No fans, beeps or anything. Never seen that before. My best guess is a mobo ground issue. But the rigs behavior is not constant with the mobo ground problems I have dealt with it the past.

Thoughts?

regardless I'll rebuild the comp again sometime within the next 24-48 hours.

What power supply is it?

Sounds like a power supply problem to me. Power supplies should never make buzz/zap type noises!

Have you tried switching the power supply on with nothing connected? (Short green wire to any black wire on motherboard connector). This will fire up most power supplies to see if its working. Some power supplies require a minimum load that's why I would like to know which one it is.

Hmm have you tried leaving it unplugged for 5 min. Had a power supply once that wouldn't turn on and left it unplugged for a bit and voila it worked again. Otherwise it seems like it died.

That sounds very similar to the power supplies that I've had destroy themselves.

First was the hunk of junk power supply that came with the Aspire Q-pack. That one buzzed and finally popped.

The second was my girlfriend's Ultra X-Connect, which had a really slight buzzing, but we couldn't get it to turn on (I had to hold the power button for a little while to get it on...). It then started to smell like burnt electronics. I quickly flipped the switch and unplugged it. We didn't touch that computer until the 600W OCZ arrived in the mail.

Regardless...if you do try to get it on, watch it very carefully, or "jump" it with an old hard drive or something along those lines. I've been lucky with the power supplies, none has destroyed any hardware when they've gone, however, I *certainly* don't want it to.

I think the mobo was grounded on the case. Fixed, all is well.
