500-600W or above would be fine...a PC P&C 610 is a favourite.

^^ Thats a good choice.

But atm, the 750TX is one of the best bang for you buck power supplies out there..

either way, there are many many many choices and I really cannot reccomend one so many, But I would stay within the brands of:
PC Power and Cooling
Corsair
Seasonic
Silverstone

"ATI Radeon HD 4870 System Requirements
PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)
Certified power supplies are recommended. Refer to http://ati.amd.com/certifiedPSU for a list of Certified products"

So I think the PCP&Cooling 610 won't be enough but the 750 sounds enough and it does have the four 6-pin connectors for crossfiring two 4870

I also took a look on Sea Sonic M12 700W which also have those four connectors

the PC power and cooling 610W only has two PCI-E connectors, in order to run two 4870's you need 4 PCI-E connectors.
Here are some good ones to choose from:

SeaSonic M12 700W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817151031
Corsair TX750W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817139006
PC: Power and Cooling 750W Crossfire Edition - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817341011
Silverstone ST85F 850W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817256011

Ya the Corsair 750W is a great deal right now smile.gif

I recommend 2 of these.

750W may work for you but anything below that size and you're doing nothing but wasting your money. ATI doesn't even list an approved PSU below 800W for dual 4870 cards. Makes no sense for most users to purchase a 1000W or higher power supply but makes even less sense to try to get by at a minimum.

Benchmarks show that a 4870 in crossfire is about 420W total.

Then maybe ATI should revise their specifications. On second thought they probably wouldn't as they use the proper equipment capable of showing instantaneous maximum loading. Unlike review sites using $12.00 watt meters.

what would need 2600w power supply?
that is MASSIVE overkill
plus that would be around $800 for PSU's i can build a whole PC for that.

your electric company would love that though. ph34r.gif

Power supply specs and reccomendations from video card companies are worthless any way you put it.

Ignore them all together and just ask on a forum..

Something to keep in mind about ignoring the manufacturer's recommendations and "just ask on a forum". One would have to look long and hard to find a 500W-600W PSU caplable of properly powering the configuration you list. Even the PC P&C 610, as good as it is it only has enough PCI-E connectors to power one 4870. The Corsair 750W already mentioned does have the necessary connectors for two 4870 cards.
