My power supply has reached its destination in california for rma. That being said, I checked the ocz website for rma status and it seems like instead of fixing or giving me a new 850 gamexstream, they are going to give me a proXstream 1000 w. I like the looks of the gamexstream and i really dont need the extra power, but i wonder how much better the 1000 watt is...it doesnt have a switch in the back either, which i like. sssoooooooo, is the proxstream a really good power supply?

The ProXStream 1000W is a superior PSU to the GameXStream you had in terms of overall build and DC output quality (it doesn't have the same issues with ripple noise that the GameXStream platform has).
You may find it is a bit noisy though.
If they are going to give you one without charging you I would take it unless you really don't like loud fans.

yea, I was looking up reviews, and I noticed that quite a few mention the loud fan. the gamexstream looks so much better though! lol. I have it under warranty, so it should be free. I wonder how hot this thing gets...
by ripple noise, what do you mean?

Ripple noise is one of the factors to take into consideration when looking at DC output quality.
The ATX 2.2 specification dictates it should fall within certain values.
Power supplies based on the FSP Epsilon platform (such as the GameXStream) have been shown to exceed the ATX 2.2 spec under high loads.
It's not something that you should be hugely concerned about.
As for looking better, I would assume that's purely a visual assessment.
For the record I do prefer the large top down fan style PSUs in general to those that use 80mm fans (mainly due to sound levels involved).
Anyway, if they are going to send you a ProXStream, hopefully it won't be too loud as to be off putting (it's not like your system will put much load on it).

If all else fails, put it up for sale here or evilbay and then go buy another Gamexstream

Shouldn't be too difficult to source a quieter fan with a similar air shifting capability (CFM).
