I've got this in my posting below, but no responses,

Not on the approved thread :-/, are they crap? I'm looking at the 550w, it's modular, and about $75 after shipping, I know they do great memory... power supply any good though?
bosco
There new 800 Watt rocks smile.gif the 550 I was not fond of. Their 600 Watt one they had was not bad either.
pvtgump
you weren't fond why?

Cause that's the one I'm looking at.

I pressume it's the XP-550 and not the HP-550?

Can't find alot of information or reviews on the XP-550 which is sometimes a bad sign but what little there is is positive.

Can't say much more than that really!

Mushkin 550w PSU I'm looking at
damian
spend a little more for alot more quality
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817139004

Thats just my suggestion though, Muskin power supplies aren't that bad but i prefer the higher watt models
pvtgump
** Modular Cabling Support No ** rules this one out, I've got a hard enough time with my case.

They told me the build quality was not as good as there other ones and if I remember correctly that was one of the first PSU's they did.

They got way better with there 600 models and the 800 watt one as well.

bah, don't get a crappy power supply because you're worried it's not modular. every time i think modular i think about the x-connects...which were simply horrible in my opinion. go with the corsair and take care of the wire management like most of us do smile.gif

good luck man

Neither my XP650 or XP800 have given me a minute of trouble. The 650 ran a water cooled Q6600 at 3.6 , 2 8800 GTS 640mb in SLI ,3HDD, 2 opticals and 5 Silverstone FM121 fans at full tilt with no issues. I beat on it hard and its still around to tell the tale.
pvtgump
there is no "taking care of" in my case... To do what I did last time required hacking my PSU to peices. Personally I'd rather not do that again.

Do you have budget? Modular power supplies are pretty expensive (well the ones that are darn good)
Id look into these
corsair 620HX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817139002
antec 850w - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817371009
(this one is pretty cheap for a modular psu, but looks really good) xigmatek 750w - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817815002

my 580watt one rocks, got it after reading a few reviews saying mushkin was the best. it sure is too!

there ram rocks also.

I think I'm going to whirlygig it, I've read ALOT of really good reveiws on it.

And it's always returnable.

I've heard some reallly reallly good things about their memory myself, one reason I was thinking of Mushkin becuase I know their respect w/ the memory world.

**And yes Damien I am on a budget, that's why I was looking at the mushkin for 75 after rebate.drops my cost $15 for somethign that better suits my needs.
jammin
Built by Topower, so won't be the most up to date design.
They're not a horrible OEM, but have fallen behind some of the others.
Some non-modular options in the same price range will likely beat it by most measures (cable management being an obvious exception).

It should be reasonable, but I can't find any test data to prove or disprove that.

I say go with it, and tell us how it does smile.gif If your on that budget and need modular, might be one of the only options.

I'm surprised Mushkin isn't on the list. I have the 650 which, when I was building my new rig in the beginning of the year, was recommended by like 10 people here.
pvtgump
I think that's what I'm going to do, I'll let you guys know what's up with it.
slugbug
I have a Mushkin HP-550 and it suits my needs just fine.
