im trying to grab a few files from my dads laptop (vista home premium) onto my pc (vista ultimate) and what normally is straight forward is being a royal pita. its asking me for a username and password when there is none setup, everything should be open. i could use a thumbdrive or blank disk but i use file sharing quite often and need to get this fixed. i know my dads os install is crippled and needs reformated but he refuses. (takes 15 seconds for winamp or firefox to open on a C2D w/2gb ram lol) but im not sure this is causing the problem. i have seen this before on win xp but ive always fixed it on accident and never knew what was causing it. neither one of us have password protected login's either.
any idea whats going on?

sounds like a permissions issue, not sure how to make a work around for it. Haven't played with Shared folders in Vista yet(haven't had the need) I know that to do this in XP without being able to setup NTFS and share permissions you needed to make the same users with the same credentials on both systems
