Well im looking at some new headphones and would like a nice pair i have about 100 us dollars i would like to spend on them im looking at these two right now headphones i really dont like headphones that look like ear muffs. i was just wondering if some one could recommend another set or one of the ones i picked out

the Koss PortaPro is the best set of headphones I've heard in that price range... the PX100/PMX100 are just too muffled and bland for my taste, I don't see why the PX100 is so highly rated... out of the 3 in the link you posted, the CX300 sound the best

would you know how the koss pros sit on your head do they go behind or up on top of your head. might help if i let you know what i want to use them for im looking something for my psp and mp3 player if good enough might hook up to the pc i can spend around $125.00 max

I used the PortaPros on my PSP Phat, iRiver iFP 899 DAP, Cowon iAudio X5L DAP, Sony Ericsson W810i and K850i... the only reason I don't use them anymore is because I use the Westone UM2 in ear monitors, but they cost about 10 times as much

The PortaPros are supra-aural with an adjustable, foldable headband (over the head)... you could use them at home on your computer I guess, but the lead is kinda short, like not much over a metre, maybe 1.2M/4ft, and they are really designed for portable use, like they fold up, and also you can run and jump around and they don't fall off unlike most other headband headphones...

There is a SportaPro version which I think goes behind the neck, but I'm fairly sure they are closed-back which makes them inferior in terms of sound quality... the open-ness of the sound from the PortaPro really makes the sound alive... to you, and anyone around you lol

I use the PX100 with my MP3 player, and yeah, they're not all that - maybe they're taking into account the cost? I dunno laugh.gif

I think it must be Sennheiser brand bias or something... the Koss PortaPro is the same price or less (pretty much the same) and sounds a lot better to me... obviously people hear differently, but man, the PX100 sounds like I have ears full of wax laugh.gif

Don't be fooled by looks - be convinced by the sound instead! laugh.gif

I think audio equipment is the only time in life where a rare rule of thumb can sometimes occur with some of the good stuff: "the uglier, the better!"

Bah, I'm in the camp that prefers looking stupid rather than having a lo-fi sound laugh.gif

If it's primarily PSP for gaming, I can't say you'd want much more than the CX300s really - it'd likely be a big waste smile.gif
capthowdy575
well these are also for my mp3 player and for some gaming on my laptop and main rig

The CX300s are pretty decent and quite lively.
The CX400s are supposedly a reasonable improvement, though I haven't personally heard them.

I got my CX300s for the equivalent of less than $30 if I remember correctly. Definitely good for the price.

Answering your question I would recommend you to visit TestFreaks, choose headphones category and sort models by score:
http://www.testfreaks.com/headphones-headsets/?sort=score
Such way you'll see which headphones have the best ratings, based on expert and user reviews from all over the world.
Prices listed near every model, so you'll find the best headphones for your budget without any problems.
Hope it will help.

but that list ranks wireless headphones, Bose headphones, and Creative headphones higher than the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II which is loads better, a world class set of headphones...

wireless = hiss
Bose = better sound from my farts
Creative = mediocre sound and artifacts from noise cancellation and pseudo surround / crystaliser

it is not that easy

hiss is not always there with wireless headphones, BOSE are not crap, just average in quality and overpriced still I'd rather choose them over your farts, but each to its own. As for Creative headphones you talk about noise-canceling headphones but this is one among tens of models they offer. Noise-canceling headphones are not the best sound quality but they are, erm, noise-canceling ... it is a different league. It is as if you compared a motorbike and a bicycle and said that bicycle is worse because it is slower or motor bike is worse because it is so much louder.

Sennheiser CX300 looks like a good value to me. Other similar in-ear phones are Shure e2c and ZEN Aurvana but both are more expensive

OT:
As for http://www.testfreaks.com/ that was mentioned earlier this website looks like another scam to cash on google ads with no respect to actual page visitors. The front page always shows 5-100 reviews for each product but if you click to read those it turns out there are none there. And those that are there are in no order: old with new , and products are mixed. Overall: useless.

sweeping generalisations from me, but all true to some extent... I'm just harsh because I love headphones, I use 3 pairs of headphones for different applications, all top of their league, and I'm about to build a Class A headphone amplifier...

http://www.headphone.com is a much much better place to look at headphones... I can't remember seeing any headsets there, and certainly no bluetooth headsets... they don't have everything there, and seem to have a touch of a bias towards Sennheiser, but there is some useful frequency response curve data and subjective descriptions of pretty much all the headphones there. It's a good place to start, but certainly look at other places...

I agree wholeheartedly that testfreaks.com is rubbish lol

check out AKG Headphones. I especially love (and own) 2 sets of akg 141's old style "on ear". They will sound even better through a headphone amp due to their high impedence. You won't be dissapointed.
