Wow!! This is one impressive little CPU! I built it for a customer, (first Barton core) and I must say that I am really impressed! I took it from the stock 1800mhz to 2000 without much trouble at all! Thats with pc2700 memory also! I am rather curious as to what it could do with better memory. The temps idle were around 33 and at load about 40, it also had a cheapo 70mm heatsink on it.....I think i may have to get myself one...Does anyone else out there have one yet??

WOW, that sound great.
What are stock speeds for 3000+?

He's right about these Bartons: I took my 2500 up to over 2GHz the first day (195fsb) and my RAM is only 2700 as well, with little or no temp changes.

If you actually got a good heatsink and fan (SLK-900 and Vantec Tornado 92mm) then you should get even higher speeds

so if i understand it right, to OC a barton, you don't need faster ram, then your mobo supports? you could even do it with slower ram?
that sounds great. also the temp management, is really impressive :-)

I run what I call a Volcano 16 (=7+ copper core with V9 replacement fan 7+9=16).
So yeah, my cooling is pretty good.
I took it right up to 195, at 1:1 with my PC2700 RAM and it ran fine. With NForce2 boards you really get the best performance by matching all your buses as best as you can. You could put PC2100 in, divide the RAM bus down, and OC your CPU, but you will see less performance gain that you might expect. At least, that is what I have read. I didn't try two different RAM speeds and everything, just kept upping the FSB until I got close to 200 (may yet get there when I'm bored one day), and then upped my AGP bus to 92 (1/2 of fsb I figure). I hit over 14k on 3dMark2001SE with that on a Ti4400 GF4 card and 512RAM on Win98SE.
I think the Barton is much better than Palimino (shocker there), and from reading around, OCs with less Temp change than most T-Breds (I know the only real diff is the L2 cache). I saw 3-4C going from 166FSB to 195FSB.

I had to come up with something...you can call your CPU cooler anything you want

yes you can..
but if you're telling people: "look i have the newest TT V16 , it isn't even out yet"... and actually it's a v9 with tornado fan.. i think your a LAMA

Yeah, you're right, but I didn't say that, in fact I told you exactly what it was...

i am ordering barton core 2500+ tommorrow and am very excited at the overclocking results i seen in this forum. most pleased because it will be my first watercooling project. i am going to also order the asus A7N8X Deluxe a week or so afterwards (saving money) then i am going to hook up my innovatek watercooling setup and watch my temps fall. can't wait will beat the piss out of this p3 800 mhz i got with 512 ddr pc2100. It runs crap good for 800 mhz but i need more speed. had this cpu for 3 yrs. I am even more excited reading the postive comments from someone who actually bought the 2500+ and not just giving a guess at what it performs like. thanks for the info dude. stay tuned for my new system in the near future............

I have the the barton 2500 and i have it overclocked to 2.1 ghz with a stock heatsink and vantect tornado 80mm on my Abit KD7 Motherboard. My temperatures could be a lot better than 58C but I don't feel like changing it. My processor has gone through a lot of high temperatures, as high as 98 C and that was for like 5 months straight. So i know it can handle the 58C now. I think i will up it again and see how much higher i can go. If i had better ram, i could probably get higher too, as i only have my ram overclocked to 168 from 166mhz. I hope you like your barton, I love it

I've been sold on all this good talk about the barton. Tonight i ordered a 2500+ barton, a7n8x dx, 2x 256mb ocs 3200,and the 80 gig 8mb wd, will be running with the factory hs/f for awhile, but might see what it can do, whatever it does it will beat this celeron 562.5 ive got right now! Ill let you guys know how this works out in about a week and a half.............

dude got my asus a7n8x deluxe mobo yesterday and installed it with my brand new barton 2500+. was skeptical because of all the questions about mobo in forums but no problems heere. it is running on stock heatsink and fan right now @ 2.08 ghz and plain ol pc2100 ram. i am hooking up my watercooling next week since i don't have time right now and have to order some artic silver 3. anyone know if artic alumina works as good. i am a little nervous about putting as3 on cpu becuz it is conductive and i might get messy installing my waterblock don't want to fry all my new parts. any one think i should go for the non conductive alumina or the artic silver 3. i want to order it asap so i can get my h2o kit installed. i am impressed though because i never overclocked before and it is so easy with this board
166 X12.5=2.08ghz on stock heatsink and fan and very stable. haven't tryed going farther going to wait till i get my h2o setup

*UPDATE*
My new 2500+ barton is now running at 10.5*200 (2.1Ghz) with stock hs/f and 1.7v core
Runs extremely stable, will try for more later but satisfied for now

What are temps?
sleepybp
Jul 2 2003, 12:26 PM
im getting about 50-52c under sustained full load, its a lil steamy but i dont think that temp will do much harm, what do u guys think? I will probably end up getting the new coolermaster aero 7+ to replace the stock heatsink, i heard that thing gives kick . temps. One more thing- i have arctic alumina on it right now that i borrowed from a friend because i ordered alumina from OCS but they sent me Geil copper thermal paste of some sort and i figured the arctic alumina was better. Do u guys know how good the Geil paste works? I also can tell u that my heatsink cpu interface is less than ideal since when i installed it , it was a ###### and the paste is no longer nice and even.

Yeah im gonna get a barton 2500 after i get my mobo and stuff this sat.(tommorow my bad) and my maxtor havent decided on cooling yet but i think it might be a Danger Den Maze 4. (d3brut knows wut im talking bout). But once i get it and use my EPox-8rda Ill try to get some wcpuid and some 3dmarks01 in for you guys its gonna be a amazing dude lol. MWUAHAHAHAHAHAH. Oh yeah i need some kinda ram i might have to stick with this 2100 till i get my 3200 geil or w/e i decide to get . Until then i can just dream PEACE

Hai..
I also tried OC my barton 2500+ with my Abit NF7 and stock hs/f. As I still a newbie in this field, I just follow what sleepybp did with his system. Change the internal clock and multiplier 200*10.5 even though my abit can detect 3200+ straight away but I'm quite afraid if I could damage the cpu easily. Thing run smooth even though I notice that my monitor became a bit bright then before OC. What do you guys suggest I could do with my system.

yeah the 2500+ is a bad as chip ive had 3 so far and everyone got to 2200mhz with a lil corevoltage . the one i have now is running 2350mhz with a aero7+ but i ordered a slk800 would of got the 947 but it would not let me use the swiftech 159 northbridge cooler. im thinking ill hit 2400mhz with the slk
