Would love to have a case that looked like that i will have to give this credit when he gets done.defcon
oblivescence
hopefully he names the computer joshua. Of course if you have never seen the movie wargames, you wouldn't understand.
capthowdy575
yea iv seen the movie also iv started to mod my cool master stacker also iv already polished the bottom grill and now im working on the fans i will post pics when done.
capthowdy575
Well last night i removed the bottom mesh and put it in going through the out side so you don't see the mounting any more. I also took the top fan and cut the mesh off so I just have two mounting brackets and put the fan grill facing up so you could see the grill and have less air restriction.

Today I'm going to start a 120mm fan on top of the case so the fan on the psu will pull air from outside of the case. I would also like to paint the inside of the case iv been googleing my head off to find some ideas and iv come up with some good ones but i don't know what kind of paint to use. any suggestions would be great. I think I have to sand the inside before I paint. I wish I had a cam to post pics but it wont be here until Thursday.

That's neat, but I think you'd benefit from having this thread in the Modding section of OCC.

well i would like to paint the inside of my case. how did you paint the inside did you sand it or just primer and paint any tips would be nice i would like to get this done so i can start to build my new computer.

I sanded down the case, put a few coats of primer, a few coats of matte/flat black, and a few coats of semi-gloss clear. You really don't need to sand the inside of the case since that's a primer of sorts anyway, but I still would. Whether or not you sand, make sure you wipe down the entire case with Isopropyl/denatured alcohol to clean it.

I think the best advice I can give you is "dont rush it." The directions on the paint will likely tell you to recoat within a few minutes or after several hours. Let the different paints dry completely between coats or it'll look bad. Make sure you let the final coat of paint dry for a couple days, depending on temperature and humidity, or it'll come off (even if it feels dry).

I tried to finish my case as quickly as I could so I could install my WC setup. Now, every time I look at the case, I wish I would have had a bit more patience. It turned out good, but I'm a perfectionist. rolleyes.gif

Here's a guide about getting a mirror finish from a spray can.
capthowdy575
im really not looking for a mirror finish on the outside of the case. I want the inside to be black but not t dull black but not a shiny black either. what grits did you use on the inside? im not really rushing i just want to start the inside but no one would tell me if i needed to sand the inside so i just been working on the outside. im going to move the power button and reset switch with the leds up into the top of the black plastic part.

I just ran to the hardware store and picked up some 220 grit. But I did most of the sanding with a wire brush and a drill because I'm lazy. laugh.gif

If you want a smooth finish, I'd suggest putting a on few coats of primer and letting it dry completely (1-2 days). After that, sand it smooth with 400 grit sandpaper and wipe off all the dust with lint-free cloth. You don't need to sand the primer down to the metal. In fact, that defeats the whole purpose. Just sand lightly to smooth it out. After that, put on the color coats. If you really want a smooth finish, put some color coats, let dry, sand, and spray again with color. After you're done with that, go ahead and finish up with the clear coat. You can sand this after several coats as well, but I don't know how it'll affect the final finish.

I prefer a textured finish, not smooth. I sanded everything down, put a few coats of primer followed by the black (satin finish) and clear coat (semi-gloss). I didn't wait for the paint to dry between coats/colors. I did it all in one shot, waiting no more than 15 minutes between coats. I couldn't tell you how many coats of each type of paint I put on, but I ended up with a nice textured "eggshell" finish. You can kind of see it in the pictures, but my camera sucks and they really don't do it justice. I didn't want a glossy finish because it'd get all nasty with fingerprints and the slightest scratch/imperfection. I didn't want a flat finish either because just rubbing up against it would ruin the finish. I picked something in between and got exactly what I wanted. biggrin.gif
