OneShot 926
I have an old thermaltake socket A volcano 12 copper cooler. and in another post have succesfuly OC my x2 3800 to 2.5 Ghz. but with a slightly better than stock cooler i had temp at 65 c at load.
So i set my timing back to stock settings..
I was wondering if it would be as easy as changing the mounting clip. cause i have an old socket 939 cooler in a drawer with a bad fan."lol i saved for a time like this.." any suggestions??
And yes i used arctic silver paste..

i have a feeling that just exchanging a mounting clip should do the trick. the only problem i could imagine is having a clearance issure with the existing mounting bracket...as far as the shape/size of the volcano 12 goes.

eh...now that i think about it...a socket A cooler has 3 in the middle of each side, and a socket 939 has one at each corner. i'm sure you could fabricate a "clip" that would work with it, but it would probably be difficult and more than likely won't have good contact or to MUCH pressure...depending on how it works out.

if i were you, i'd probably just buy a whole new cooler. you can try modding it, but i don't think it's going to be easy. if you do - please post pictures of how you did it! it'd be an interesting read.

Did someone say... Retro? biggrin.gif

Providing you could ensure that the 939 bracket could fit between the fins of the Tt Volcano12 & the thickness of the HsF base was equal to the original unit... then clamping pressure should be adequate! wink.gif

Sounds like you've got yourself a project!

BTW you could always just reuse the fan off the Volcano on the revamped 939 heatsink smile.gif
