Hey guys.
im looking to build my own case!
for the up and coming changes to my rig! i need lots of room for water cooling soo big top and bottem panles to mount rads!
lots of space between the front and back for long 8800 gfx cards! I have made a quick plan up last night im goin to make it out of 20mm box Ali. and start with a frame!

after the frame is made im goin too get some sheet ali and make a mobo tray and maybe fit some more box ali to suport the tray if needed.
can any one see any up and comming problems? or design fualts?

Well, it's a box. You've got that right. I'm not sure what kind of critique you're really looking for here. It's a box with three numbers next to it. <shrug>
Without knowing your further plans for the layout, I don't see how we can tell you if it'll work or not.
What are you putting in? Where? How do you plan to make/mount the motherboard tray? How will you design the mounting (screw-in) point for your cards? How will you mount disks? Basically, how do you plan to mount everything to this case? And how do you plan to adjoin the straight sections of aluminum to assemble the box?

well the mobo tray i was thinking cut a sheet of ali the same size as the inside of the fram work and just rivet or weld it to the back of the frame.
for the fixing of the pci cards i was thinkin along the lines of an angle bracket fixed to the backpanel bit like this (proflie view)

and for fixing the side panles i though key hole slots with with small bolts on the side panel or fit some magnets
the layout would be some thing like this.

While you are building it put the power supply in a separate chamber in the bottom like the Antec P180B. Then you will have room for a bigger radiator in the top in case you need it latter.
Edit: opps did not see that other radiator in the bottom on the first look, sorry.

If you are going to make your own, why go conventional?
No sense in trying to stuff everything in an ATX style case...

I'm with him. If you want to be normal, spend $20 on a real case. Or be like us

well ive been thinking and the only reson i wanna make a case is so i have more space in side for water cooling and that i wanna do it my self! so ive been thinking how to do it ive come up with the idea of building an ali frame then polishing it and makeking every other panle out of clear plastic
im goin to to fix the dvd rack / hdd rack with the plastic to the angle ali 2 angle paces on each side 2 @ the top 2 @ the bottem the plastic will be fixed to the iner side of the ali angle witch leves me with about 150mm for the whit of a dvd drive's i hope you under stand what i mean as its hard to exsplane.

BUT
If your going to conform to a normal shape and make it ATX style why not just buy one?
It would make a lot more sense to design your case around your hardware then place your hardware around your case...
I guess in the long run its up to you and your skill level dictates the complexity of this task, you will get "RESPECT" regardless if you
"go all out" or if you just make a normal shaped case.

i think making the sides out of brushed aluminium would look cooler than acrylic (you could still have a window though)
Hmm, just tryed something on paint. I don't know how suitable it would be in real life but i was just trying to do something non-ATXish
the black boxs at the front are radiators because i think it would be cool to have the front part of the case a radiator. Also i think i might have made the HDD and CD rack a bit big, if you only needed space for maybe 2 hdd's and 2 cd drives you could maybe cut it down a bit and use a larger rad across the front for a great effect. You could even stick the hdd's somewhere else in the case as they don't need to be up the front like the cd/dvd drives.
I just think a rad for the front would look quite imposing with lights shining through from behind.
Anyways, just an idea

I am sort of designing my case around the hardwear as im making the case far bigger than any normal ATX case. im sure for running wires its easy to have the psu near the top. also when i i put a huge rad @ the bottem i was thinking about air flow and heat. blowing all the heat out the top of the case not that there will be that much as it will mostly be cooled by water. as i only have about 4 5.25" drive bay items i geuss the dvd rack does not have to go right the way though the case witch would leaves more space be low to center the pump. al so i could hang the Hdd's over the lowe rad so there cooled by the fans on the rad.
but i guess its all one big learning patren. when you case biuld a far out case what idaers do you have? because putting the psu lower down doesnt make much diffrence? were you thinking side intakes with a 120mm rad in each side

some thing like this but better thought out

Before nrg posted the revised pic I was wondering what that drawing was supposed to be. I'm glad he cleared that up! I don't think that type of addition would really make a difference aside from cosmetic.

Be sure to add lights, lights are good. I would also find a creative way to put the OCC logo in there somewhere.

haha like everyone said, why waste ur time making a normal looking case? if u look u can find one big enough for your needs and just mod that a little.
but if ur going to make something from scratch, go wild like so many others suggested, just seems like a waste of time to build a box
lmao @ hardings hard on
