Why isn't coolMaster reguarded as good and why is it not reccomended often?

From this link I would think it should be no?
http://www.jonnyguru.com/SMPS_UL.htm
ENHANCE ELECTRONICS CO LTD
they make the Cooler Master 850W PSU's.
they also make some of Silverstone's (Element and Strider) PSU's
PCP&C is often built by Seasonic.

If those that make coolermaster also make some silvertsones... You see where Im going?
roadkill
Some Coolermasters are good smile.gif

Im with you on this one, CM is unappreciated! CM also has a 1KW unit and of course, yes it is made by Enhance
Ste
Do you know which ones are?

Ill add them to my reccomendation List

PC Power and Cooling
Etasis
Zippy
Corsair
Seasonic
Silverstone
OCZ
Fortron
Antec
Enermax
Tagan
Mushkin

+ Coolermaster
roadkill
Uhh... for most cases you cant just list the mfg, certain power supplies from the mfg need to be accounted for..

for example....
Coolmax generally sucks, but their green power line is awesome

Antec (was) good until they got infected by the (lovably dubbed) f* you caps aka Fuhjyyu

Some of Tagan's newer power supplies are absoulte junk

and so on.

You would have to identify each and every power supply, which is an insane task...

I usually refer to this link for that reason.

Do you know if the top five companies have any "really bad models" ?
PC Power and Cooling
Etasis
Zippy
Corsair
Seasonic

That would be interesting to know.
bigred
coolermaster PSU's in the sub $200 market are absolute trash... I'd put them as "okay" in the higher end ones at best.

antec has since learned from their mistakes and is fixing it. enermax and enlight are always good options too. super micro, while VERY expensive, are VERY reliable and always put out a good clean voltage... even thier demo 1000w and 1500w models have been perfect (other than weighing more than many microatx systems)
Ste
Well, Im just wondering what would be a good reccomendation List.
I know you simply can't put down a whole brand name as good. Roadkill suggested that if I did do a List I should stick to Brands that have little to no bad models.
I was thinking along the lines of

PC Power and cooling
Etasis
Zippy
Corsair
Seasonic
silverstone
OCZ
Enermax
Fortron

So IYO bigred, should any of those not be on there, or did I miss some brands that as a whole are very good for desktops?

If I wanted to go further should I do something like:
PC power and Cooling
Etasis
Zippy
Corsair
Seasonic
Coolermaster (High End models only)
OCZ
Fortron
Hiper (Type R only)
Coolmax (Green Power Line Only)

This is why I have gone down the road of listing specific power supplies for the recommended list I put together.
Even then you can get different revisions of the same model which makes things even more complicated.
I should really get more added to that soon and keep it updated frequently. It's just hard to keep up.
roadkill
For OCZ, I would take out the modstream, that thing is junk and just lives off the OCZ name, actually, most top power's are over rated.

Red, I agree that cheaper CMs are absoulte trash, but their real power line is actually very good, the 850 is up there with the Etasis. I cant comment in the 1kw one as I am not done playing with it tongue.gif

From that list, the others look very solid. smile.gif

To make the list more useful, we should also include some lesser known ones that are significantly cheaper than those big names, but perform well... kinda like Coolmax and the greenpower line. Such as, Sytrin/nextherm which is built by SevenTeam, Ultra's Xpro/ Xfinity series, Sunbeam, and uh Ill add more to the list as it comes to mind.

bigred
I would consider forton servicable for basic systems, but not for overclockers and high end systems. same hiper.

and OCZ... yuck yuck yuck yuck. bad luck all around with those.

seriously though, you guys SHOULD check out super micro for your overkilling needs. 2 dual core opterons, 8 sticks of ram 4 750gb SATA 2 hdds, 2 500gb SAS (raid 0), 4 dvd burners, 2 8800GTX's, 2 X2900XTX's, 12 fans (will remain the same after the phase is put in for the CPU's).... oh and did I mention it's triple redundant (3 sperate PSU's)?
roadkill
Id love to try one out, but first I would need one of those systems you described biggrin.gif anyone feel like dropping one off at my door, be my guest !

especially those dual X2900XTX's, I wouldn't mind a couple of them kickin' about in my room wink.gif

I have viewed the Power supply thread you created many times. Its good. But it Could be Better!

For Low end Builds or tight Budgets:
Coolmax (Green Line Only)
Xclio
Sunbeam
Sparkle
Hiper

Sound About right?

So fortron would be in the low or tight budget builds?

As for OCZ Being ungodly bad. Is it from personnel experiences or do you have a reviewer website your speaking from. If so Link?

This is a Pretty good power supply guide. Though, it does have some Brands on there that this thread is poo pooing...

roadkill
Modstreams suck tongue.gif the others are fairly good, I played with the OCZ 1kw its beastly

Enhances arent exactly ... tight budget, they range from cheap to 300+ , same as Xclio (which uses Enhance)
bigred
personal experience.

no offense to reviewers... but it very often drives me up the wall when a product is simply getting good reviews on how it holds up for the week of the review... never mind how it runs 3 months down the road. and when you go thru as much hardware as I do, sell / service as much hardware as I do you get to see the ugly side of things online reviews MISS.

then there's the "oh they gave it to us we can't say anything bad" review sites... thank GOD OCC isn't one of those smile.gif

To be 100% fair to Antec, they've begun using Teapo & OST capacitors in some (if not all) of their newer PSU series, keep in mind Teapo & OST suck but are better than Fuhjyyu by a mile, oh and BTW FWIW Tagan's have been noted to have Fuhjyyu caps in at least one of their PSU range too sad.gif

I really wub.gif my CoolerMaster Centurion case... they just need to work on their PSU cred' if they want people to take them as serious contenders in the PSU market smile.gif

Well, here it is. (For another Site)

I Did my best, hopefully I did well..

http://www.tech-forums.net/showthread.php?threadid=144427

I can still edit it so feel free to make suggestions..

Overclockers club wasn't the only source, so yea, I tried to be broad. closedeyes.gif
Its probably excellent for a site like that. Many of you would have a hard time holding your insults back from many members there... (For being really really noob)

Codegen? blink.gif

I've used/encountered far worse 'Yum Cha' generic PSU's before... once I recapped my 550w unit it's voltage supply & variation look good, though not as impressive as the refurbished Antec wink.gif
Ste
Where does it say that? Lol I don't remember typing that..

Oh, under the Power supplies to avoid.. lol
