The Single-player demo for Supreme Commander, the spiritual successor to 1997's hit RTS Total Annihiliation, is now available for download.

If you never heard of this game, you need to keep up on your gaming news tongue.gif. What's not to be intrigued about enormous maps with up to 500 units per player, gigantic units and even bigger explosions wink.gif.

Here's a quote from the recent PC Gamer:

QUOTE(PC Gamer @ March 2007, p.023)
[...] SupCom goes like this: Your Armored Command Unit (ACU) dramatically teleports in, constructs a base, and raises a huge robot army to wage war over land, sea, and air. Your ACU is roughly equivalent to the king in chess--powerful and versatile, but also slow and vulnerable--and if you lose him, it's Game Over. That chess-like game element significantly changes the standard (and somewhat tired) RTS gameplay formula for the better by forcing you to defend a high-priority target, but it just scratches the surfcace of what SupCom has to offer. Oh, and when an ACU dies, he explodes like a nuke. You don't usually see that in chess.

Here's the gamedaily.com link (which is always extremely fast downloads for me)

Here's the gamespot link (which I first used, but was going extremely slow).

Downloading now.
Watched a few trailers and it looks impressive.

Probably not going to run particularly smoothly but hey.

If it's as good as it's sounds then I'll no doubt pick up the full version once it's out and it'll suck up my free time for a while laugh.gif

not merely dual-monitor friendly...the first game designed with dual-monitor in mind. Those with dual-monitors get the regular "RTS screen" on one monitor, and a top-down tactical map on the second monitor.

I haven't installed/played it yet...I'll probably get to it over the weekend, but my download took 24 minutes and 39 seconds. I love gamedaily!

well i just played it for about 3 hours and what a game! It'd be nice if there was some sort of in-game tutorial, because i spent a lot of time just trying to figure out how to play the game. But really is a sweet game and if you're into RTS games at all, then this demo is worth the download

looks a shade like dawn of war. gotta love fully 3d DOW smile.gif might check it out if i can find some time

This game looks pretty cool. I'd heard a little about it before, but nothing major. The "ACU - chess king" analogy seems very intriguing. Hopefully it will put a much needed spin on the RTS genre. The dual-monitor thing sounds very appealing as well. I'll definitely be grabbing the demo when I get home tonight.

yeah it looks like it would need it....looks like it was designed for 1600x1200 or something. all the items are huge and would wouldnt be much viewing area with anything less. not sure if i like it just for that fact. i like to be able to see more than 2 things on my screen at once.

edit, the game was running at 800x600 when i clearly set it to 1280x1024, guess the first time it didnt take my settings. looks much better now.
Mombo
This game comes free from select sites (newegg) if you buy a C2D and a 680i Evga mobo OR a 8 series card from EVGA. Evga.com has an advertisement on its first page if you just go to evga.com. Pretty sweet little bonus for anyone looking to do an upgrade. Mine was quite simple I just had the mobo and cpu in a package on newegg and it had the game in there discounted to zero for me ready to go. I am very excited to get it tomorrow tongue.gif
