I know you have all heard this a thousand times and im sorry but i want some help with getting a new power supply yes i already look at the list and it has help some. Ok what im looking for is a good power supply around 850 watts or so i will be powering either a DFi crossfire board or the EVGA. with a E6600 and either a DX ten card or a 7950 gtx. i will also be putting in 4 hard drives 3 sata and 1 idea two being in raid 0 (maybe two raptors). i was thinking along the lines of a silverstone or a OCZ. if anyone has any better ideas then thank you o and also i have about a $210 (USD) to spend not including shipping.

But wouldn't you rather have that PSU? Its in your price range and from the looks of the review it looks like it peforms well. I mean come on look at the rails on that baby. Just ask unforgivin..........................
capthowdy575
yea i would love to have it but it would cost about 250 or 260 to get it from that store price including shipping.

But I highly doubt your going to find a very good quality PSU in that price range for the things your wanting to use it for. Like the 8800's those things are freakin power drinkers. Although you probaly already know this if you get that DFI crossfire board you can't get those DX10 cards like what you want or that 7950GTX. But nice choice of processor man!!!!!!!!
capthowdy575
yea i know i was also thinking a a X1900xt or waiting for there DX 10 cards to come out i was thinking about the ocz power supply or the silverstone either one would be the 850 watts any thoughts.

EVERYWHERE, the company has the reputation as being the BEST PSU manufacturer out there next to Zippy and PCP&P

I just tried it again on my new sys (See sig) rails stray from 11.97-12.03 UNDER FULL load (With an 8800gts) blink.gif

the rails are literally rock solid... and I mean it. Although, They don't seem to sell anywhere sad.gif and are usually pretty expensive on 3rd party sites

The OCZ that you have chosen is a good choice, but if really want the best, go for the Etasis. I have not heard anything bad about it except for size and that it is not modular. Modular PSUs aren't as efficient anyway. I have also read good things about this. I also like the Enermax Liberty and the Hiper PSUs. That may help if $$ is an issue. When I get feel that my current setup is no longer adequate, I will definitely go with the good stuff. I like "future proof" my stuff. Maybe you could by your components one at a time as you have the money and then build it in a couple of months.

That Etasis unit is awesome ... Im not sure if it costs less or more than the Silverstone Zeus, but they are both exactly the same unit inside smile.gif Both of them are UL#E176239.

You've gotta love rebadging. The Silverstone looks to be cheaper from wht I have seen, and it is modular. Say what you want, but I love modular. The connections to the PSU look as if they are very solid, unlike other modular PSUs that simply plug in like a regular old school molex connector.

I dont care so much for modular, but it is a nice addition I guess... but from what I can see, the SST cost 50 dollars more than the Etasis 0.o Where did you see it for lower? One thing I do like about the SST is that it has a nicer paint job, but that alone cant justify the added cost imho.

Newegg has it for $209. I have saeen the Etasis for $230 or so. I just looked and saw that it has gone down, so you are right.

Nevermind, I was looking at the 750, not the 850. Sundial Micro is the only place I have seen the 850, and it is $225.

the PC Power & Cooling 750 Quad SLI psu is listed as $199 on the site
http://www.pcpower.com/products/viewproduct.php?show=S75QB

ONE 12v rail at 60A

i'd rather have that than some stupid four rail p.o.s. (GameXtreme) and i'd even rather have it than the 850W silverstone/etasis dual rail thing

The modular silverstone looks slightly different to the Zeus to me. Different cooling as well.
Not sure about the internals. The Zeus is $244.99 at newegg. $227 here

the Silverstone should be good, ask crusader about it, he has his quad core and dual 8800GTX rig on that.

I totally agree. Why get a Silverstone quad rail with a combined output of 70A when you can get a solid single rail with 60A, a negligible difference.
That PCPower doesn't happen to have a 20+4-Pin ATX connector, does it? It doesn't look like it. bah.gif
Sagittaria
Supposedly, 4small rails=stabler than one large rail under load

And I'm thinking there correct.... 3.3v no movement, same with 5v, 12v only moves about .05v
roadkill
4 rails isnt more stable than one single one, there usually is no difference. The reason why we have multiple rails is because of the ATX 2x specifications.

The thing declares that if any rail has more than 20A, a second rail should be issued for 'safety' purposes =\. The advantage a single rail has over multiple rail power supplies is that you don't have to worry about overloaded the individual rails, especailly if there are four... like cmon WHY four rails sad.gif

ahhh, gotta love intel and the ole marketing gimic that bigger/more is better tongue.gif sad.gif
roadkill
The funny thing is that many 'dual rail' power supplies are actually single rails, its just the sticker says its a dual rail. Also, there are tons of power supplies who slap on the ATX 2.x certified logo even though they greatly out spec ATX 2.x guidelines tongue.gif

well should i get the pc power or the etasis it dosent really matter about price for either one i can spend up to like 270 with shipping and handling i was thinking about the etasis because it 850 watts but the pcpower is a top brand.

So Is Etasis, You just never see them in the enthusiest market (They re-badge a lot of there stuff for silverstone TT) They are REALLY active in the high end server market.

PCP&P is an enthusiast name, which is why you see a lot of them. But you can't go wrong with either. But my vote goes to the Etasis
chavalcito
If you have enough room in your case, the Etasis is great. I just don't like messing with separate rails.
