Last time I painted a case, I had mixed results. I dissassembled my CM Stacker (old, not the new kind) to paint everything black. I started off by sanding everything, then laying down a few base coats of primer. I followed it up with 3-4 layers of black followed by two clear-coats. At first everything looked pristine and wonderful. However, the stickiness of the paint never totally went away and it got tarnished really easy from things that touched it. I ended up having to strip everything and take it to a friend who actually knows what he is doing.

I don't remember what kind of paint I used exactly, could that have been the problem? Did I not let it dry enough between coats? I'm buying a new case soon for my rig in progress, but I'm not sure if I want to try painting it again. It would be worth it if I knew I wouldn't end up having to re-do it like last time.

Any of you guys have some advice for me? blush.gif

sounds like you may have laid the coats down too thick, and not let each coat cure enough... also, you maybe have used say, cellulose paint, and acryclic clearcoat, and that would mess things up at the end...

after spending way too much money on rattlecans myself, and having a nightmare with working with spraycans as opposed to real paint, i'd advise just taking it to someone with a compressor and paint gun, whether it's something they have at their house, or at work... it would have been cheaper, and a lot less hassle for me to pay someone to auto-paint my case...

also, i still haven't finished it laugh.gif

(i know how to paint with rattlecans... i just don't have a workshop or garage or ANYwhere to paint unless i want to sacrifice a corner of my bedroom and sleep in a cloud of cellulose fumes lol...)

I actually thought about just sending you a message, or addressing the topic to you because I know you have.. "extensive" experience with teh rattlecanzz smile.gif . I was thinking about just getting a professional to do it or finding a neighbor with a compressor.

I'm in the same boat with you, I don't have anywhere to paint except when I'm home for the holidays or summer and what not. I bet it was an issue with the paint/clear coat combination.
