My first post here, and i like the forum very much. Looking forward to being around here for some time.

Anyway, this is my entry for the 1m superpi database.

Hopefully all the relevent bits are there to get me in the database, if not please let me know and i will redo it.

Welcome to OCC! smile.gif Nice OC. I probably couldn't even get my poor CPU to POST at 4GHz, forget about SPi 1M at 4.5...

Nice, welcome to OCC BTW. I also found that I can pass OCCT but not Prime 95 ver. 25.4 for quads without adding a little more voltage

Just shove it under Phase, you'll get it there smile.gif

Not running a Quad myself, but my rig runs at 4.1gig 24/7. I hav'nt got a 24hr Orthos run to post because all the other forums i belong to only require 8hr runs. But i'll post up a 24hr run when i get time to do one. In the mean time i'll post the screenie below.

Actually that was directed @ King, sorry about that. I was letting him know that passing OCCT with a quad can fail on prime 95 and SMP Folding I have found out...
kingdingeling
Yea, I know you need more volts for 24/7 operation, but it's getting a little toasty ph34r.gif

Anyways, nice results kitfit1, I'll add 'em straight away smile.gif

[Edit]
Update from me:
kitfit1
Ok, next up is my 32m Pi run. I must admit i did'nt think it would complete. But as it did, it must mean that i have a good chance of getting an even better 1m time smile.gif

Welcome aboard thumbs-up.gif

For this competition, you need to run dual instances though smile.gif

man this DFI 680i is hard work, I got this far, changed a couple things, then had to reset the CMOS and forgot what it was at (and couldn't even get 2.7ghz to POST)... tried different bios releases... gonna try the last quad-specific bios next, but now I have to do boring stuff like eat and do laundry lol
kingdingeling
That's some hefty Vcore for only 3GHz! sad.gif Sounds like you got a bad VID chip...

Same VID as my Quad on my DS3R...
hardnrg
is that what it maxed out at?! ohmy.gif

I was having serious problems with ocing earlier on this DFI, either:

1) I am using the wrong bios for a quad core
2) I don't know the DFI 680i bios, it's controls and traits (like FSB holes)
3) This Q6600 sucks
4) I suck

Well I had it running at 3.5Ghz Folding only with a higher CFM fan on the Ultra 120 Extreme. When I moved it to be my main rig I put a smaller CFM/quieter fan on it. From what I have read the 680i and Quads do not get along to well...
hardnrg
yeah, I think it's quite a fiddly process on the 680i... particular bios releases, certain settings, etc etc... I'll redeem myself when I get some proper time with it lol

Man, well I redeemed myself with the 2nd day of overclocking... managed to edge past Kingnoobeling for Spi1m laugh.gif

Working with this DFI bios is like spinning plates, so much balancing and tweaking! I'm sure it'll pay off in the end... Was passing Memtest86+ @ DDR996, 4-4-4-12 which I was quite surprised by, because these Geil Ultra sticks are almost the cheapest DDR2 in the UK! laugh.gif

Anyway... here we go:

SPi1M @ 3600 MHz, 1.472v

SPi1M @ 3634 MHz, 1.504v

The vCore droops a LOT under load like down 0.05-0.07v lol...

Made a lot of progress tonight anyway... probably being held back by the fact that the mosfet and NB sinks are only getting slightly cooled because of limited space in those areas... I have a 975x block and a Thermalright mosfet sink gagging to get on this board...

Edit: I was wondering why the times were so bad, started running 32M, was about 7th iteration/step in and my harddrives were thrashing like crazy, opened up Task Manager, each instance using ~256MB, about 100MB of physical ram left... MEMORY LEAK lol... turns out I must've copied an old version of SpiMod from a flash drive or something because I have 1.5 in my installation files, but 1.4 was being run... bah

Put it under water! Yea my DS3R has almost a .1 droop. I think a lot of it is the 4 pin cpu power plug because its not near that bad on the DS4 with the 8 pin plug...
hardnrg
it'll be going under water soon enough...

I'm totally blown away by these air temps though... about 52°C average over the four cores while folding (dual instances of Ubuntu) and it's not even loud lol...

I'm sure my NB and mosfet temps suck a bit though laugh.gif

All will be sorted soon smile.gif

I think the fact that the max Spi1m and Spi32m speeds are so close at 3.6ghz means that I haven't hit the CPU limit yet, I tried 450x8 just now and it wouldn't even post so I've got some more voltage juggling and FSB hole jumping to do... this will do for the meantime... I only put the Quad in the DFI because my EVGA died lol, I'm supposed to be doing all kinds of other work, bleh

You running Vmware and two SMP clients? Let me know how many PPD that is doing. I have been thinking about setting my other quad up that way. I get 3500PPD with the windows client.
hardnrg
well, one's showing 2350.29 PPD, the other just started so it hasn't got a running PPD in FahMon yet... it's looking good though lol... averaged load has plateaued at 54°C
kingdingeling
How did you superPI past me? blink.gif I'm like 10 seconds faster ya big hardnoob laugh.gif

Are you running two clients in one Virtual OS in VMware? Or are you running 2 virtual OS's in VMware? Cause that's what I'm doing right now, and it seems to work just fine smile.gif
hardnrg
you can only have 2 processors per Virtual Machine, so you need to run two VMs, an SMP client in each... so yeah, that's what I'm doing... but first, more overclocking lol

Q6600 G0
Air

SPi32M @ 3600 MHz

SPi1M @ 3648 MHz

oh yeah, I forgot you do SPi based on time... remember on the 939 thread I included SPi as a stability test rather than a benchmark... possibly my times suck at the moment because I have Virtualisation enabled... I'll find out eventually smile.gif
kingdingeling
Virtualisation disabled decreases your times? Sweet, gotta try that sometime laugh.gif

But Steve, if you want to, I can bench right past that for ya wink.gif But now = party time! *goes downtown* tongue.gif
hardnrg
Q6600 G0
Air

SPi 1M @ 3671 MHz
21.437s

OCCT @ 3601 MHz

Next I tried tightening up the timings and running some SPi32M for stability, I was using my computer at the same time so the times are really slow lol... but it's stable at 8x450, 4-3-3-10, and that's the main thing smile.gif

SPi 32M @ 3601 MHz
Time: laughable

kingdingeling
Those GeIL Ultra's are running 4-3-3-10 at 450?! What kinna volts are you giving them? ohmy.gif
hardnrg
2.3v... now i'm running them at 1T, 400.5MHz, 4-4-4-12-1T... using a different bios and it seems to be a lot more stable for running 1T, a bit more stable on the CPU too, but the CPU multi is locked at 9x, so I'm making up for the lower bus speed with 1T...

SPi32M @ 3604 MHz
400.5 MHz, 4-4-4-12-1T
35m 10.063s

update:

SPi1M @ 8x425 = 3400 MHz
425 MHz, 4-4-3-10-1T
19.468s

getting there...
firky
It's Firky time smile.gif

hows about some 500mhz fsb

or maybe 500mhz with a 3.5ghz cpu smile.gif

kingdingeling
How about actually overclocking that processor, not just by a measly 500MHz? laugh.gif

I just noticed, does the DFI board have downwards dividers? Cause you're running a 500FSB, but the RAM is at 400MHz?
firky
as far as i no all 680i mobo's have unlocked links between fsb and the ram sooo you can set any speed you want.

500mhz with no more volts smile.gif almost passed memtest @ 3.8ghz but it crashed out @ 80% and im not in the mood to play around and fix it right now lol
kingdingeling
Stock volts is decent, but then again you also have a G0 wink.gif Looking at the first pic, you have a high VID though sad.gif

Ahh, forgot about unlinked laugh.gif Why were you running only one stick for the SuperPI @ 3.5?
firky
one must be dead lol i have 2 sticks in
kingdingeling
lol?! You might wanna check that out then laugh.gif Your screenshot says single chanel, one stick ohmy.gif

Got a L738B233 this time, my other quad that does well is a L734B164, the one that does not do so well is my L726A855. I will start putting it together shortly...

Edit: It has VID of 1.325...
kingdingeling
Got my Blood Iron working again, still not totally certain what the culprit was, but I'm suspecting some voltage in the BIOS. If I changed anything other than CPU Vcore or RAM Vdimm, it wouldn't boot again... weird stuff. Anyways, here's a small increase in speed, whilst a decrease in clock tongue.gif

@ road, not so good luck on that one sad.gif but lets see what it can do anyways
road-runner
Well its about the same as my first quad. I have been reading a lot and looking at benchmarks on other sites and from what I can tell the chips with 1.32 VID or higher are having a hard time reaching 3.6Ghz stable no matter what voltage you put to it. Anyway here is 3560 another DS4/Q6600/Ulta 120 Extreme with 1.525 setting in the bios. I can probably get higher with more voltage, but since this is going to be a dual Linux SMP folding rig I am going to leave it at this speed for now and get "Gutsy" installed to boost my PPD by 5,000... biggrin.gif

Yea Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 Ubuntu is out, I am fixing to try it. As far as temps I saw 63c as the hotest temp, on the hottest core during that run of OCCT. It will probably drop some after the AS settles...
