Hey justr need some Ideas on new psu I am killing my old one
somethging in 700watt continous range 750watt continous would be best
under $150.00 usd
current system is trying when at full oad to draw 700watts off a 550 psu
caffeinejunkie
OCZ GameXStream 700w would be my choice and you can get them for like 110ish.

Fortron Source, in my opinion the best psu manufacturer.
Scratch
Seasonic

pc power and cooling. best industrial power supples for sli/quad rigs smile.gif
jammin
Details of the system it will be powering?

Must be pretty beefy if it's drawing as much power as you say.

a cd burner
current power supply 550 watt coolmax
the current conculsions of needing a new higher power; power supply
come from the system failing during heavy activity,
I know this could be many things so to determine where it was the power supply or not I hooked up a second 300 watt psu I had laying around just to the video card and used the 300 watt to power the card while the the rest of the system ran off the 550 watt, at which point this let me put the system through its paces for about two hours and it never crashed when with out the second psu it would have crashed inside of forty minutes
the power supply wattage came from estimate based on the extreme psu calculator on http://www.extreme.outervision.com/ btw thx for all the help in advance esp. you jammin I always forget to post my specs I need to put them in my sig

I think the recommendations so far have been pretty good.

The OCZ GXS 700w is roughly on price point.
I'm not sure where you were planning to buy from though.
OCZ @newegg

The PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610w might also be an option, it's a bit more than $150 @newegg
Plus the specs are't quite as tight as the Turbo-Cool series. But there you have the 510 or the 850 with no in between option.

Seasonic also make quality power supplies, but once you start getting over 600w they will push the budget as well.

Again, the Fortron is a reasonable recommendation.

I'd be interested to know the exact specs on your current Coolmax PSU.

Whether your system actually needs a 700w PSU to me seems debatable.
(Obviously it's generally best to be safe, plus a little room for expansion is always good).

700W crappy psu maybe...

my main rig runs off a 510W power supply... arguably the best 510W psu ever made, but here's what i power:

170 @ 1.69v (socket) --> wattage consumption of cpu @ load estimated at 244W
2x 7800GT overvolted from 1.4v to 1.712v gpu and 2.08v gddr to 2.35v
4x sata
1x ide
7x high performance 120mm
5x high performance 92mm
3x dual ccfl
1x dvdrw
1x cdrw
1x Laing D5 pump
1x sb audigy 2zs

now, if you put all that into the psu calculator it comes to quite a lot, but when i measured it with a power monitor (here) i found the AC wattage consumption to be 537 W... but it was soon pointed out that with the 0.75 efficiency rating of the psu, that translates to a rather more modest 402 W at the DC side of things (albeit not with all my fans and optical drives connected) and this is the actual wattage consumption of the computer, the psu is using/wasting 25% of the AC to convert the power

my point is, your psu sucks because it's a crap psu, not because the wattage rating is insufficient... if a *decent* 510 W psu can power my rig, it could certainly power a single core venice, single gpu rig running at lower voltages...

This was also my first thought.. but having no experience with water cooling I had no idea how much power that draws.

With that said, it would seem to me that even a similarly rated PSU from one of the already recommended brands would be perfectly suitable.
swifty11212
if the pc power and cooling can power hardnrgs rig, it can power mines too. it is seriously worth its price. laugh.gif
hardnrg
pretty much any "recommended psu" from a list on a reputable site (hint hint) will power your rig... it doesn't have to be a zippy or pcp&c server strength psu... just not a big bag of crapola...
jammin
I'm still a little ashamed of that list at the moment.
I really must find time to restore it to it's former glory.
hardnrg
that was the hint hint part...

c'mon now ... chop chop! laugh.gif

agreed maybe a 510 pc&c would do considering my current psu is a coolmax carp psu specs are here straight from newegg wear I originaly bought the psu not holding my bad judgement againist them just againist my self btw the psu is 2 1/2 years old now and cpu core is not a venice it is a winchester if that makes a difference; Also I must make a decision soon as it the psu keeps cutting out on me during games and other apps more frequently now like once a day any way the specs are below

for the longest time, an antec neopower 480 powered my overclocked main rig (until i added a 2nd graphics card) so i'd say a pcp&c would be way overkill in terms of power and price...

i'd only buy it for that rig if you were looking for a long-term investment as you could use the same psu in a much more power hungry rig...

excatly my plan
because in 3 months I am going to use this same rig minus mobo ram cpu gpu aka all cooling and hdd drives stay but main internals will be replaced
With 680 nivida chipset
a conroe 6800 refresh chip
2 gig ram what will then avialalbe ddr 2 1500
and sli'ed pair of dx 10 cards( due out november 3rd in the us from nvidia)
2 x 150 gig raptors
and a extra 500gb seagate backup
so I am looking for bit of over kill to cover this future setup
do you think pc&c 650 tubro will have enough juice for the upgrade
hardnrg
with ease yes smile.gif
spectrascope
smile.gif awesome thx harnrg. then I will order one next it is only 50USD over budget but and that is fine given the long term stability
