ANTEC 550 Watt Power Supply TruePower 2.0

OR

OCZ GameXStream 600W Watt SLI-Ready

What is better?
UkJenT
I would pick the Antec one. Antec is a highly reliable company. Well know for their PSUs.

Actually, I would pick the OCZ. They have some really amazing power supplies that have gotten rave reviews from everyone who has bought one.

In fact, Antec has recently been plagued with a series of issues mainly stemming from low quality capacitors in their power supplies. Their quality has dropped somewhat in the past year.

I suggest going with the OCZ if you want a reliable PSU that can handle anything you throw at it.

the OCZ PSU's are really good actually. I'd definately pick the OCZ over the Antec...and I have an Antec PSU!

I just read a very lengthy review of psu's from 10 major brandnames and it was quite interesting as I was looking at purchasing the OCZ until I discovered it failed the tests they ran
The most stable and efficient PSU that they could recommend was the Seasonic S12-600HT 600W ATX12V 20/24 Pin V2.0 Active PFC Power Supply
I've heard they have now completed a revision of this product and it now comes with braided cables also and the cable length was also measured in the tests
this one was very impressive

id like to see that review lol, and what tests they were running. every other review ive ever read gave rave reviews of the 600 and 700 watt Ocz GameXstream PSU's.

Get the OCZ.
kingdingeling
yea, OCZ all the way!

I've owned antec and ocz psu's and both are very good companies.
Between the two psu's that you're considering, that ocz is definately better.

OCZ. Although I have the Truepower 2.0 550 and its working fine, my smartpower started to scream at me after about 7 or 8 months.

If its the review I think he thinking about then Its the one where they use some high tech gear to test about 10 different psu's, they test the the amperage, voltage, stability and sine of all the lines (rails) at varying loads and whatnot.
I couldnt find the review though... closedeyes.gif

My vote goes to the Seasonic as well..

but of the two you mentioned, I would choose the OCZ. As others have mentioned, Antec has really gone downhill with thier power supplies... many have died simply because of bad fuhjyyu (two bads in a row? like a bad -bad?) caps.

* slaps UkJenT with an Antec PSU *

I'd recommend a Codegen PSU before an Antec (any day) tongue.gif rolleyes.gif

Seriously, while they continue to use substandard components (namely Fuhjyyu cap's) their products will remain a poor comparison to any high end PSU like an OCZ biggrin.gif

However... once recapped and modded with higher spec' fans they're awesome units! biggrin.gif

antec has cleaned up thier act in the last few months. at least from what I've been told. my new 500w ones are up and running but the jury is still out.

OCZ on the hand has bothered me. very low on the 3.3v rail sad.gif

if $$$ is not a concern and you want 100% quality power go supermicro. of course you'll spend at least $300 on one of thiers.

also check out enermax and enlight. both make great PSU's at fair prices.

Go with the OCZ. I know from experience.

The only antecs i have are the 350w ones that came in a few cases. They are relegated to the farm. I have a 520w powerstream and 700w gamextream and both have done well. The 520 had stable rails and voltage under load stayed right on the money. The 700w has run a little low on the 3.3v line it runs around 3.28-3.29 tested with a voltmeterunder load. The 12v and 5v are right on the money. I like OCZ.

Get an OCZ ps. I currently use an antec ps and it works good but its not the greatest.

Slaps Tazwegion, even the all mighty BigRed agrees that Antec is a better choice over OCZ. tongue.gif
Bleeble
I just bought the 700W GameXStream. Everyone says that Antec has been slipping lately, but I've been out of the loop so I dunno... Anyways, the GameXStreams are made by FSP (Fortron), so you know the quality is good (and just look at all the glowing reviews).
Fireonice
My enermax liberty is running good. It's rails are rock solid and it didnt put a hole in my pocket smile.gif.
chavalcito
I have the reviews on the OZC, and they have all been positive for that model. I would go for it. They have even marked a scematic so that you can see which cable goes with each pair of rails!

not the almighty anything.

I just happen to go thru so darn many power supplies, that I get to see the good and the bad. 6 months ago... I wouldn't touch an antec. I got stuck with a bunch of em due to my order. now I have to say they've held up. the few OCZ I got... I put them in the same ball park as codegen. also had a slew of those things bad thru the stores. I'd take "low" rails over NO rails and smoke any day.
UkJenT
I don't deny that OCZ is a good product. I'm actually thinking of buying the one mentioned by Bleeble.
road-runner
I have several Antecs and have not had one quit yet after about 2 years of non stop folding , I have had Enermax go out and some of the other cheap brands that came in the cases go out.
