you could put them all on ur case in some crazy pattern, then make some crazy program to control all of the lights.

OMFG blue cow... Glow Productions is gonna sue you now

Well.. You could do what I've done for a year now, buy huge sales, split them up and put like 25 sets of 3 LEDs up for sale on eBay and reap a profit

I want to get some and make something like those tracklight things you see, maybe with clusters of 5 or so LEDs...I wonder how bright that would be...

Dec 20 2005, 11:02 AM
lol well it will be probably sometime next week when i get them because my e-check won't clear until probably friday of this week and then it depends on how long it takes for the guy to send 'em out but hell if i put all of these in my computer i wouldn't have a clue where to start or what resistor i would need...would i need a resistor for each of these dang things? or can i just make a box or something lol cause that would be so much of a pain...i might end up doing it like christmas tree lights or something like that =P
Puck
Dec 20 2005, 11:14 AM
I'd resell them in like packs of 5.
airman
Dec 20 2005, 11:30 AM
mmmm i might do that puck but i'd like some for myself hehe i might keep say, 40 and wire them up in my case or whatever
but i still need help with wiring...KOBALT? if you see this don't you use LEDs in your case? i need to talk to an expert =)

i think you need to make some blue led underwear, use them ALL, and then run around at night, maybe in a black ninja suit, but with the blue led underwear on the outside... like a superhero!
and all anyone will see is a floating pair of underpants flying around the neighbourhood...

that's just one of the many uses...

LOL. Dude.. from what I've been reading on here lately, if you do that, Chuck Norris will pop out of nowhere and roundhouse kick-fight you.. and then he'll eat the LEDs cause they're crunchy

Why only the blue ones? I mean, the mixed colors would have been better. But anywho, i say get a peice of plexiglass and space the LEDs about 1/2 inch apart in a pattern (any pattern) and light it up. Make sure to wear some welders goggles though. No one likes burned retnas. Man, talk about the ultimate night light. Oh ya, wiring LEDs isnt' that hard. Just gotta make sure you get enough power to them. FOr that, i am not sure how much power.

you actually only need one resistor for a bunch of leds... probably only up to about 30 on one resistor tho...
R (single led) = (Vs - Vf) / I
R (multiple leds) = R (single led) / number of leds
then you hook them up like this:

I always buy from these guys, they're great and good/bad ratio is about 4%bad so it's very good when you look at the price they sell them and for some shipping is free

okay so kobalt if these have voltage needs of ~3.6-3.9v or something like that...which resitor would i need for 'em if i hook them up to my 5v connection?

^---do that. That'd be awesome. And have a friend videotape you and upload it so we can see it

Or if you're too shy, attach one led for every resistor on your mobo, then use one of those programs to sync it up to your audio so your whole case goes bonkers when you play music

pretty much all 5mm led's are rated at 20mA for the light output and have a 30mA max current... base your calculations on 20mA... it's not like they're noticeably brighter at 30mA...

mmmm there's a thought....but i'm confused about the part: "one led for every resistor on your mobo"...
care to expand? =D
and...also...on that calculator thing: the "voltage drop across LED"...if i need it to have ~3.6v and i use my 5v connection i would put in 1.4? j/w if i'm doin this right =P

Oh, i just meant as far as placement goes, glue them to your resistors. You could just fill your whole mobo with them though.

no... if the led needs 3.6v to light up, that IS the forward v drop... 5v = supply
