Acid Storm
I'm building a new cover for my old flame and I'm wondering whether to use 0.5mm aluminum or 1mm aluminum.

I have chosen for the plain hightech disign with aluminum and bolts.
much of the weight can be supported by the plexiglass.
it will be 30 out of 45cm in height.
It will be supported by thicker strips to hold it in place.
they will not be attacked to the side though.
so, will 0.5 be enough??
the 1mm is twice as expencive (20euro).
but if I have no other choise I will have to take it.

I also have some good ideas on stealthmod the entire thing.
perhaps it will work out well.
I will post picutres.

Thanks

have you looked at the actuall metal go to your local welding or sheet metal store and take a look at them and just pick one that is sturdy but light smack.gif
justinal
.5mm should be sturdy but light.

sturdy but light......
I want to use aluminum because it's light and cool.
0.5 isn't that sturdy. I can bend it with 2 fingers.
but how sturdy should it be?
I think it would be enough.
1mm could only be bend with serious fource.
I hope 0.5 will not bend during transportation or anything like that.
I'm still trying to find a good way to have it attached well.

I'll buy 0.5mm for now.
thanks

I would go with the 1mm just because I'm paranoid. Just remember though, it is doubled over at the edges, so you are getting an effective doubling of the structural integrity at the edges. Sortof like if you'd mounted 0.5mm inside a 1mm frame, or 1mm in a 2mm frame.

I came to conclude that I will have to take 1mm because 0.5mm is just to easy to bend.
I think 0.5mm will get dented realy easy, and I don't want a messed up case within 3 mounths.
Now all I have to do is get back to the store and get out another 10euros.
what kind of jug-saw saw should I use to cut this stuff??
their are all kind of metal cutting blades. fine or rough?
master_flea
use a rough, high grade blade. pay the xtra few bucks and get a higher end blade, as they're usually made with a better grade of material, so they last longer. Just make sure you have the right pattern to cut out, and remember to measure three times, check the design again, then measure again before you cut. Then file down any burrs and you're set.

It will work good, make sure there are support bars running arcoss it. Fold a peice or use a thin thin strip of 1mm. Double the support
Acid Storm
ok, I think I got that.
I'll get started on it in the weekend.
I still must ask what thickness others have chosen to use.
that 1mm is suprisingly twice as heavy at he 0.5mm..... strange.......

I'm thinking about a nice window with a 120mmfan on top and a large plain window in the side and a 90mm fan in front.
I'm going to make a nicelooking drivebay with it which includes the power switch aswell. (I hope)
I will order some blue leds.
I just came up with a great Idee for using those leds.
I was thinking about making a sanded plexiglass bar underneath the lowest drivebay with all the switches.
it lits up blue on 1 side when it's on and blinks red on the other for the hd.
that should be nice. I could wrap the sides in aluminum foile to increase the brightness.

so what I need to know now is hot much volts can the motherboard take for the leds?
2 leds each would be even nicer.

You'd prolly do better to run your fans of the molex 4pin connectors using a conversion lead since you can then play around with it a lot more. I'll post a link as soon as I can find it. for a 4pin molex to 3pin fan connector.
