Full Version: A Good Case For Modding

Hey guys, i'm glad to be a part of your forums. biggrin.gif

anyway, i am building a new machine and i have everything picked out except the case, and a few others. I am looking for something that is black and is a mid-tower.
It doesn't matter if the case looks good or not because its my job as a modder to fix that. wink.gif

what i am planning on doing is creating the under water effect that so many talk about but few have actually done. I was wondering if a pre-exisiting window would not allow me to do this. If you are unfamiliar with this underwater effect, its basically on the side window there are 2 layers of plexi glass filled with water. on the bottom run a air hose with random size/space holes in it to create bubbles to flow to the top. thus creating the illusion that your pc is submerged in water! yikes!

I also to plan to go with water cooling, to stay in theme. The lights i am going to get for the inside are going to be blue. and perhaps i will get a Matrix Orbital LCD as well.

Here are the other componets i am planning for my project.

2x PC2100 512MB DDR 266MHZ 1x $89.68 2x $179.36
1x INTEL PENTIUM 4 P4 2.66GHZ NORTHWOOD 512K 533FSB RETAIL BOX $416.25
1x GIGABYTE 8INXP S478 E7205 DUAL DDR AGP 5PCI SERIAL ATA USB2.0 SOUND LAN $359.64
1x ATI RADEON 9500 PRO 128MB AGP VGA DVI-I TV OUT RETAIL BOX $333.00
1x SAMSUNG 172T BLACK 17 INCH LCD 1280X1024 ANALOG/DIGITAL $975.69
1x LOGITECH Z680 5.1 SPEAKERS 450W METALLIC SILVER ANALOG/DIGITAL/OPTICAL $466.20
1x SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY 2 PLATINUM RETAIL BOX $274.40
1x DVD BURNER II(DVD-RAM/-R/ -RW CD-R/RW) INT IDE $428.69
1x LITEON BLACK 16X DVD-ROM INT E-IDE OEM W/ SW DVD PLAYER $73.16
1x BARRACUDA ATA V 120GB 7200RPM 8MB CACHE SATA $248.96

and the product i have yet to chose are...

1x Keyboard, probably that one that lights up blue from underneath.
1x Optical Mouse, anyone know of an optical mouse thats blue instead of red?
1x Case, i hope you guys can help me out with this.
1x WaterCooling Kit. I have spent a long time on research for this, but i think i need more. anyone recommend one?

If you think the above prices are way too high, remember that those prices are Canadian.

Thanks alot everyone for taking the time to read my post. biggrin.gif smile.gif

well if you want to try and fit it all in a mid tower (it can be done), lian li makes the water filled side panel for their pc-60 series cases.

a few things seem odd about your parts list. doesn't seem to make sense to use sucks slow ram. also such a small monitor. then your HDD is more then most mortals would use in 2 life times. But hey, it's ur money...do whatever you want with it.
aqueous
Trust me, i can fill that hard drive and many more like that in no time wink.gif

as well with the RAM, my mobo officially only supports that speed, but reviews and other people have revealed to me that it can support higher. Perhaps if i have more money i'll go the 2700 route. or maybe i will talk to Gigabyte and ask them see if i can get better in there.

17 inch's for an LCD monitor is plenty. especially for the price of them. I just want something easy on the eyes, then easy on my wallet, then screen size.

i was thinking of getting the following case

LIAN-LI ALUMINUM PC71 BLACK 24IN 6X5.25 3X3.5 6X3.5(INT) ATX CASE W/O PS $312.48

ok, with a little more research i have found that the speed of the pc2100 ram in my board will be 4200mb/s, thanks to the dual channel of my motherboard.

thats plenty fast.
SoyoJoe
i went with danger den water cooling, which are made with exceptional quality, and theyre custom kits. swiftech and inovatech are really nice as well.

i got a hp 18in viewable lcd monitor for $600 the size difference is amazing from a 17" crt anyway. i'm sure you can do better then 17" for that much money.

it just seems strange that your going with top of class parts for most of the stuff but taking a step back with the memory.

the pc-71 would be a nice case, and i just bought water cooling parts made up mostly of swiftec parts...i heard nice things about them and i hope it lives up to exectations.

Hey, thanks alot SoyoJoe and sykocus for taking the time to reply to my thread. i really appreciate your input.

ok, there have been some changes. since my first post. the memory has been an issue, and as i did more research i found out that giga-byte has another board called the SINXP.

the only difference between the 8INXP and the SINXP is that 8INXP has the E7025 and SINXP has SiS 655 and 963 chipsets. SINXP also has Firewire ports, and has support for ddr400. SINXP has all the other stuff, dual memory, dual bios, etc.. same as 8INXP

While the 8inxp goes for about 360$ cdn, the sinxp goes for about 260$.

Here is the ram i am going to buy for this new motherboard.

DDR Unbuffered DIMM PC3200/DDR400 from the company TwinMOS.
probably get 2 sticks of 512.

it seems like i am saving money with the cheaper motherboard, but i now have to lay out a few extra bucks to get this ram.

Now, I really haven't done much research on LCD's. i just kinda picked the cheapest, with the most viewalbe inches.

sykocus, let me know how your water cooling goes for you. smile.gif i'm intrested to see if all works out well for you.

I don't mind spending the extra bit for quality when it comes to water cooling. i don't want anything bad to happen...

Whoa!!! . . . I hope you are NOT going to pay that much for a Lian Li PC-71. ohmy.gif

You can get one *here* for $176 and *here* for $179.

I have been shopping for good prices on Lian Li for over a week.
If I needed a lot of space that's what I'd buy. (the PC-71)
But since I don't need that much room I'm going for the PC-60 instead. ($108 +free shipping)

Good luck with your new system aqueous. smile.gif
