I have a clam shell case (came with drill bits I think...)
I want to take a usb wireless (not bluetooth) and use it as a wireless network card.
I will take apart the usb device put it this case and then make a usb adapter for it.
that way the whole unit just looks like the case but the you pop it open and it is a network antenna card thing...

Pretty cool idea, I don't think I've seen that done before. Just hope that nobody tries to yank the case away real fast thinking its something else while it's plugged in.

Umm, you realize that the "dish" antennas, unless used in an "array" setup are pretty much only directional? Why do you think you have to point TV satellite dishes?
Most USB wireless adapters do not have external antennas, either. PCI, and PCMCIA ones quite often do, but I've yet to see a USB one with changable antennas.

yes I know they're directional, it would be just for the effect.
And there are mods for usb adapters to add an external antenna

Thats case youre using is the exact same one that I worked on with a friend to mod a PS2 and a monitor in.

I'll probably use an extension that is coiled inside when not in use.
or better yet use a retractable cable!!!!
I was thinking the weird-look factor would increase if you just had a static USB port sticking out, or maybe you could like put it on a button type thing like laptop CD drives, so you could pop it in and out.
