Can anybody recommend a vendor selling computer case components like drive racks or MB trays, that sort of thing?

it'd probably be cheaper to buy a cheap (but good) case with a removable mobo tray and drive cages and just de-rivet it... or better still, get a 2nd hand case that has them with i dunno, a busted front bezel that you don't care about...
I think directron.com sells old cases.

That's probably the best idea. I did happen across a crappy (but aluminum) case newegg was selling for $9 (yes, nine dollars) after rebate. It might even have had a slide out MB tray.
It's probably too soon to expect to see aluminum case selling at garage sales....

Here is the only place I've been able to find back panels, which is the toughest thing to look for and nearly impossible to build oneself. On this list, you'll see they carry motherboard trays and a couple drive cages.
It's a start, at least.
