thinking about building a pc inside a fish tank, its 3ft long by 12" depth, section off enough room for motherboard etc in the middle of the tank, and hopefully the motherboard etc will generate enough heat to keep the fish alive??
any thoughts, or is this just too strange........

it would short out everything. no. bad idea. not gona work. dont try it.

well aside from the obvious (sealing the computer off from the water) the only way i would think you could transfer the heat to the water would be like a radiator, but even then you would have to keep the water in the tank moving... unless you used the tank as a reservoir... that would be interesting. although you wouldnt fish feces in ur cooling system lol laugh.gif

Another problem you'll run into is that usually you want to keep a fish tank at a specific temp cuz a sudden change will kill the fish. Well if you like start playing a game and just them temp wouldn't it kill or tramatize the fish? You wouldnt even really be able to regulate the temperature...

I would say it sounds like a cool and unique idea but i don't thing it is very plausable wink.gif

it won... it's not weird... well... it IS lol.. but it's not that weird... biggrin.gif

as long as its done correctly, i cant see why it would short out everything. the tank would have a filter in it anyway to keep the water circulating. this would keep the pc cool by moving the water. it would also have a water heater, as would a fish tank, to regulate the water in the tank. my only problem would be the dvd rom drive, which i may put under the tank providing it could take the weight, and allow it to open, if not, i cant see why i cant mount it inside anyway

The key isn't to use water. tongue.gif

You have to use some rare, nonconductive chemical.
Ghost2520
Your saying the mobo would heat up the water? I seriously hope you aren't just going to plop the mobo into the tank. The mobo or any circuitry for that matter can NOT be touching the water. Or are you saying that you would have the computer in a water tight case and then have a water cooling system using the entire tank as the resovoir? That would probably work. I don't know if it would be able to keep the tank warm enough though... if not just overclock.

Of course you'll have to find some pretty original fish that can survive in "nonconductive chemicals". smile.gif

Well i just got an idea, what if you shrink rap the entire computer? then just stick it in the tank? It'd look like its floating, I and if you do this then you probably won't even have to use heatsink tongue.gif

Edit: tho you may need some heavey duty material for the NB, CPU, and the Gpu otherwise ithink the shrink wrap would melt
apostolics
no the shrink wrap would insulate the heat not dissipate it.

i think the sensible solution would be to have a small fish tank in the centre of the big fish tank that was the same height... that way you'd kinda have a rectangle donut of water for the fishees and then you'd have a big hollow dry bit in the centre for the computer... you'd want to be careful with how you get the mains cable to the computer... probably best from up over the centre... if you know someone who's a qualified electrician or maybe someone who installs garden lights for ponds or something they could make a hole at the bottom centre (through both tanks) for the mains cable and k/b, mouse, vga, usb, etc...

that's how i'd do it anyway... computer dry in the middle, no submersive craziness lol

Just be trendy and put fish in your water cooling reservoir.

lol put a hot enough proccesor and vid card in the set up and you could fry fish in it laugh.gif LOl maybe i should try doing that,

BTW: i already use my computer for a heater during the winter too lol

We're talking about a computter in a fish tank, the sensible solution went out the window a while ago. smile.gif

he wants to section a tank off into three watertight sections as do many aqatic centers, then use the middle one to house the components.
Tomatosauce
Found another one. Same principal. Check it out.

How about joining two computers together. You build a aquarium inside of one, than put your comp in the other. You join the two together. and you look in.

One problem, fish tanks will rust your WC blocks because the water is something....(I don't know much about WC)

av a gander at this fish case
