was standing in the shower today and was thinking what i could mod into my case and this popped in to my head. i have a xbox and ps2 that sit on my desk and thought what if i take them apart and mod them into my case. pics of my case here http://www.overclockersclub.com/gallery/?act=case&id=1066 my case should have enough room to put both in [attachmentid=16564]

ill have to look tonight but i thought of cutting out the two hd rails and maybe that sheet of aluminum in the front for more room.
ClayMeow
are you rewiring them so that it reads the discs from your dvd-drive? because otherwise you'll need more room, plus accessability to put in the cds.
JerrDogg77

thats kinda cool, but its already been done.
akac
i thought of just modding everything into the front of my case but i might put the controler ports and power buttons on the right side of the case and cut spots for the cd/dvd drives for both units in the front. then take apart a old psu and take the plugin part out and mod that to the back of the case and put an electical outlet inside the case to power both units.

So what? It would be interesting to see how he goes about doing his mod. If you've seen it done before, why don't you give him a link that would help the guy out?
Psychotic_god
This should be interesting. If he pulls it off I might have to do it too. Good luck!
computergee
Go for it, would be awesome if you can pull it off nicely. My cousin said he saw one, it had a pc, xbox, gamecube and ps2 in it. I think it was called the xcube2 tongue.gif.
flareback
that would be a great project

yeah, i saw that too....i'm pretty sure it was posted in OCC, so maybe run a search and see what pops up. It was kinda massive if I remember correctly, so not exactly what akac's going for here, but will still give a good idea of what to do probably.
General912
I think the xbox would be easier to mod into it then the ps2.. The xbox is more of a PC itself. You can just put the dvd and hdd in the normal drive rails. I would have a dvd for your computer and xbox unless you can figure out how to have the dvd read for both devices which I think is impossible... The PS2 I have never seen the inside of. I dont know if it has IDE drives like the xbox...

I thought of doing this like three months after I got an xbox, didnt decide to do it tho

When I got home last night I started to operate on my ps2 to see what I could do with it. Well Sony though that an inch of wire is long enough to hook all of there stuff together, and the worst part of it all I cant add any wire to it its all really small cables like ide cables but shrunk down really small ill take pics when I get home and post them. But anyway I found a spot to mount it into my case. Its going to mount vertically in the open hard drive bay and go about an 1.5’’ up into my 5.25 bay, little cutting and it should fit. The Xbox is really the easiest to mod but finding a spot for it was hard after I found were I wanted the ps2. all the wires can be cut and lengthened and mounting the hd and dvd drive will be easy, but I might not take the easy road out and just mount them in the bays I might mod them into the side with the ps2.
[attachmentid=16575]
sorry about the bad paint shop add ins but this is what i was thinking. the yellow box is the ps2 its going to mount just under my res. the light blue box is the psu for the xbox and the red box is the xbox mb that is going to mount parallel to my side case panel. the only thing is im not sure how im going to mount all of this inside my case, i guess i cross that road when i come to it.
suchuwato
hmm... my xbox is wayyyy bigger than that. dry.gif

Are you taking all the casing off bnoth the consoles?

(Also has anyone thought of building a PC into an Xbox case? Nano-ITX anyone?)
akac
Yes to get both systems to fit I had to remove the cases fro both units.

I also read yoshi’s article on how he made his boxx and after I get the ps2 and xbox inside my case I might try and fit my nes and snes in there to. yes i have emulators for both these but it would just be fun to have them in there. how fun would it be the next time someone asks you what kind of system you have you could be like, well i have a nes, snes, ps2 and xbox in there and after they pick ther jaw up off the floor you can hit them with the bang a$$ computer system that is also in there.

Oh has any read that Atari has come out with the Atari flashback 2 I may pick one of these up and try to put it in there.

<edit> while i have a lot of time at work i was thinking of a way to mount all of this inside my case and so far the best thing i could think of would be to use plexiglass. will this work or do i need to make metal trays so the boards have someting to ground to? i like the plexiglass idea so you cans still see everything. please let me now witch i should use.
Dtaylor
You could proably get a few more gaming units in there...just 4 laughs, you could mod a Gameboy in the side(LOL).
Gr4vitas
This will be awsome! Dude go for it i wanna see you do it biggrin.gif

EDIT: you may wanna start thinking of cooling..... biggrin.gif
CoolMaster
wait like 3 months and mod and xbox 360, ps3 and revolution in there
apostolics
that would be neat to have a one stop playing rig. but its gonna be difficult i think to make them all accesable. how are you planning to switch between systems?and are you gonna have your pc there too. if so cooling cooling cooling is all that comes to mind
bigr
huum, if you want i can draw up plans for it and assisit you, with things suc as measurments if i can get partiall credit, becuase i have a idea i do not want to disclose to the people onc, i have a hint though

Apstolics I don’t think cooling will be a problem the units won’t be on 24/7 like my computer. But just for .s and giggles I was thinking of mounting water blocks to them for cooling, but there are no mounting holes to mount the blocks to. If I use thermal compound will that hold them on? Or should I try to fab some bracket to hold the on. Anyway the Xbox might have to wait a week or two before I can mount it into my case. My brother is talking to one of his friends that mods Xbox’s so I might have him put in a chip and a bigger HD before I put it into my case. I want to see how much bigger the mb is going to be after the chip gets put on.

Well last night I forgot to post pics of the ps2 so I wrote a memo on my cell phone to remind me. Maybe somebody can help me figure out how to mount a water block to my ps2. I also forgot to dig my nes and snes out last night to see what those look like on the inside.

Wow I got way off from your post there. Switching form unit to unit won’t be hard if I only have the Xbox and ps2. My video card has an rca and svideo in and out so I can have both plugged in at the same time. If I need more ill just get a switch box to choose witch one I want to play on.
Shadow334
I have done this before. It takes alot of cuting, drilling, and about any thing els you can think of. But i will tell you this it is worth it in the end.
Yoshi's Box "G4 TV" is what made me do it.

This is somthing that may help you out it is pics and some info on yoshi's Boxx

http://www.g4tv.com/screensavers/features/...oshis_Boxx.html

I did not have any cooling probs when i done it. I used 2 80mm fans. I did add heat sinks to the cpus. But they come off of a Mac. I used them because they was the only heatsinks i had laying around that i could put an 80mm fan on.
I did not have my comp in the case. but i got a gameBox switch off of ebay that i mounted in the back of the case. I will try to find out the bran and let you know.
I have seen them at wall mart for like $30 bucks.
akac
Well I finely took pics of everything. First is the ps2
[attachmentid=16585]
here is the ribon that i cant do anything with
[attachmentid=16586]
the heat sinks that i dont know how to mount
[attachmentid=16587]
and were they sit on the ps2
[attachmentid=16588]
next is the xbox
[attachmentid=16589]
you can see that this is the easiest to mod into the case
last is the snes and nes
[attachmentid=16590]
snes is on the left nes is on ther right
Shadow334
i cant help you when it comes to the nes, cause i never hade them apart. but that ribon cabel is no prob it will come off from the mobo, well mine did. go to a tech store or look around on line for the cabel that matches it. i dont remember how many pins it was, but you can count them. I got mine at best buy. good luck. i will keep looking at this thred so keep it updated.

How it is made will depend on when it was made. see sony changed the design about 1 year after the ps2 come out because they found a cheaper way to make the system.
cchalogamer
let see your XBOX is between version 1.2-1.5, not liekly 1.6a/b bc if it was that new you prob wouldn't be ripping it apart biggrin.gif

I would tell you the exact version but i cant tell what chips are on the bord from the picture.

Mine's the good old version 1.0, but i suppose with my screen name you would have guessed that...

Oh and why put a PC in an XBOX when you already have one inside...toss in an unlocked HDD and install Linux, works great or so i hear, the controller ports are USB, so no problems there.
Mr Ham Cake
This is gonna be the badest thing I have ever seen to be modded. Good luck and don't let the project die like some other modders have. (not here other forums)
akac
I don’t remember when I bought my ps2 I think it was a few months after it came out. The xbox I bought at the end of march this year. Build date on the bottom is 1-25-05.
here are the two cables i would like to extend on the bottom of the ps2's cd rom drive.
[attachmentid=16593]
[attachmentid=16594]
ill check online but i dont think im going to find what im looking for.
edit 7:38pm
Well here are my weapons of mass destruction
[attachmentid=16597]
here it is sitting in my case after i cut the 5.25 bay to make room
[attachmentid=16598]
[attachmentid=16599]
after i cut everything into the side
[attachmentid=16600]
[attachmentid=16601]
the ps2 already had a metal cage around it so i just sat it on the bottom of the case and used zip ties to fasen to my case. it seemed to work very well.
[attachmentid=16602]
I decided while I was in there I would redo my hoses and wiring
[attachmentid=16603]
i ran out of time to mod the xbox into my case so stay tuned ill try to work it into next weekend.
Edit 11-7 2:36
well tonight when i get home form work im going to find a nice happy spot for my xbox to live in side my case.
Dtaylor
hmm...you gave me an idea that involves a sega genesis....I still think you should put an old handheld system into the side or something as a joke...
savethedodobird
If you want to see it done before look for yoshis boxx on google or something.

Anyways you should have plenty of room for the xbox, since you can put the HDD and DVD in computer slots. You cant rigg up a comp DVD to play through the xbox Because the xbox DVD spins backward. Anyways for info on moding/working with xboxs check out xbox-scene.com
computergee
Wow, this is really coming together. Looking really nice, now you have one box for both pc and xbox lan parties! Good luck and keep up the good work.
akac
Last night as I was waiting for some games to install on my computer I dug out the Xbox to see were I could fit it into my case. Not just wanting to slap it in there I took some time to see were it would fit. If you look at the last picture from my last post, the power supply is going to mount right next to my mb with the 20 pin plug going down behind my hard drives to plug into the mb. I still haven’t found a nice spot for the DVD & hd yet but all the other stuff (controller ports, power/reset buttons) will be in the side with the ps2. I still haven’t found a spot for the snes and nes yet but im still looking.

Oh dtaylor I use to have a few gameboys ill try and find one and see what I can do with that. But I think I got rid of them.

P.S. anybody now were I can pick up a ps1 lcd screen. I know they are on ebay but I don’t have a pay pal account and I really don’t trust ebay that much. Id like a Sony one not a second hand / generic brand even though it most likly the same thing on the inside.
Shadow334
looks good keep it up and it will be a cool mod. You will need to put some fans on that ps2 and xbox, cause the xbox will genrate a lot of heat. When i built mine i did not have them so close together.
Dtaylor
hmm...on the subject of an LCD, screen, they sold them @ wal-mart last time I knew...but that's in MI...anyway, the gameboy idea is just for a joke smile.gif I think you can get a GBpocket really cheap now...

P.S. This entire thing is a great idea...I've never thought of building that kind of mod before...you nust be very creative;)
airman
nice, keep it up. i just may do this one day...(perfect for lan parties!!)
akac
sorry i havent posted in a few days ive been busy working on my truck, i got that all taken care of. tommorrow im going to start on the xbox and by the end of tommorrow you will be seeing new pics of my case with a xbox inside. biggrin.gif

edit 11-14
well i lied so im a guy what else is new. i got stuck at work all weekend and didnt have any real time to do anything with my computer. i really only got some odds and ends done on it like stealthing my rom drives and mounting the psu for the xbox inside my case. ill post pics when i get home tonight so you guys can see what little progress i have made.

edit 11-16
well here are new pics of my case not much new to it but anyway this is what ive got done so far.
[attachmentid=16775]
these are my new stealth drives the top two bays are still my rom drives but now it looks like theres nothing there.
[attachmentid=16776]
this is my new window that i put in the side of my case with a thunder cats sticker on it. if you look really hard you can see the xbox psu back behind the sticker.
[attachmentid=16777]
heres somewhat of a clear shot of the xbox psu right next to my motherboard.
dice
