OK, so I get my RMA'd Fortron 530W back about a week ago. I turn my computer off last night, all is well. I wake up this morning, and the computer won't turn on. Every fan in the case, including the power supply fan spins for about 3 seconds, and then it just stops. The mobo lights stay on all the time though. I've tried new power cords, new sockets. I tried just turning the PS using the paper clip trick, same result. Its like the PS just won't kick into to full gear and dies. Fortron is really starting to dissappoint me if this thing has died this fast.

Please, any suggestions you might have on what may get my computer working again. Thanks for your help.

Have you tried it with the bare minimium?

Just mobo, graphics card?

Question answered? smile.gif From what I understand he's tried the PSU on it's own, nothing connected, and it only powers up for a few seconds then dies.

Can't you send it back and get a refund, then buy a different brand PSU?

Yeah, PSU on its own does nothinhg. Fan spins for a second or to and it stops. Yeah, I can get a refund, its just I have to pay for a 15% restocking fee and the shipping to get it back to newegg, ya know? But after having my first fortron break within a year, and this one die in a week, I guess I'm done with fortron.

Look into OCZ, Antec, blah blah blah the list goes on.

Tagan!!! Absolutely the best money, IMO, that I have spent on my computer. This thing is a tank!

that is the one ive got.. they make higher wattage PSU's in that model, if you need a higher one... VERY stable, powerful PSU!

I thank lilkev a ton for helping me decide on it

I found this one at extreme overclocking.com and its getting great reviews from everyone.

The customers at newegg love it. The dave guy at extremeoverclocking reccomends it. THere was a guy that wrote a reveiw at extremeovercocking who said it was good. Plus, its not to terribly expensive.

PSU

Any one here used one of these? Its made by the same company that makes parts for antec and such.

Never ever heard of it, Id stick to OCZ and Antec for good overclocking power supplies.

the XCLIO has identical specs to the neopower...

XClio 480: http://www.xclio.com/product_04-b.htm
Neopower 480: http://www.antec.com/specs/Neo480_spe.html

the difference would be the modular connection system...

I still would stick to those 2, but thats just me. w/e. I don't like going off brand unless many people say its good.

Well, I can't get a refund for my Fortron anyway, so its RMAd for a replacement. Just mailed it off about half an hour ago. Hopefully my third fortron 530w will last at least a year.

Thanks for your help guys.

Wait!!! I know what this problem is! I had the same one on my first A64 build!

I plugged in the 24-pin cable, but never plugged in the 6-pin cable that is also required on the mobo. Every time I started it up, it started then turned off right away (all the fans and everything spinned for the 3 seconds it turned on). Sucks you just sent it for RMA. I got here to late sad.gif

I'm pretty sure he would have noticed that but that could be what was wrong.

Wth kind of motherboard do you have, Last time I checked there is no 6 Pin connector on an ATX motherboard maybe a 4 Pin connecter and a 24 Pin connecter.
