Full Version: Turning On A Ps Without A Motherboard?

Scince I know use 24-pin power supplies for my computers was wondering do you still hock the green wire and black wire togeather and will the ps turn on or has the wiring changed with 24-pin ps and somthing eles has to be done to turn it on?

All the extra four pins are for extra power usages... i think there extra 12 volts... it should still work

ya, Ive never done it myself but I hear from others it worked, just make sure you got some protection between you and the paper clip, maybe rubber gloves. 1 AMP can do damge to u.

Umm - you're only talking about 1.6mA - no need for any extra protection here - just stick the paper clip in and don't worry about it.

Yep. Some PSU's may need a light load to turn on tho so connect a couple fans to some of the molex connectors if your's doesnt power up.

thnx alot i needed to test some fans + lights

i tried green to black on 2 psu and neither worked

Assuming you're still talking about a 24-pin PSU, did you connect pin 16 (PS_ON) to pin 17, 18 or 19 (COM)?

i dunno which pin # it was i have it put up now but i used the green wire and tried all the black ones, it doesnt matter i just gout out my battery charger
