My friend just replaced his old laptop with a newer Refurbed Dell... His old Toshiba Satellite laptop (about 3 years old) died and the only useable thing off of it is the monitor. Can it be possible to mount this screen to the window of my Antec Super LANBOY, rewire it, hook it up to my on-board video and use it to travel?

I have heard that I would need a specific graphics adapter that would've been built into the laptop, but I assume that if you could mount the screen from a PSX, than you could mount an older laptop screen.

Any suggestions? huh.gif

edit: found something else...

Here's someone who had a similar question - looks like the answer is a resounding "heck no" (unless you're willing to shell out big cash)

you need the driver board for teh LCD out fo the old laptop. this is how you would interface with the LCD, if you where willing to put the weeks (yes weeks) into decodign the input/output from the driver board, then you could do this. but it a VERY long and hard task to do. i am currently decoding a TFT LCD i picked up, that i will eb adding itno my case.

Uber is right mate, sorry, but unless you are willing to put an exagerated ammount of time into this, it would not work. It's POSSIBLE, but unfortunatley not probable. Just get youself an LCD monitor (15-17"), take out the casing to make it even slimmer, mod it a bit, and mount it in your case. Then you can plug the DVI or whatever plug directly into your video card. It would be an easy an great mod, but the monitor would cost you. It's practically the only solution.

however travel to a lanparty with that would probably be VERY easy...all in one package and its NOT a laptop..;>

Ya they could probably work....but how would you get it to play a picture if theres no way (unless those stated) to interface with it?

good point... unless the laptop moniter is hooked up to the laptop via a vga connector... which i doubt, so scratch that

That sounds like a good idea...I have 2 old laptops with the LCD intact, if anyone finds something on this stuff, let me know ASAP.
