What are your thoughts on the new service and Google's Client? What would you like to see?

So far so good, I wish though that when you minimized it, that it went straight to an icon on the right side of the taskbar instead of doing so when you press the X (which should totally close the program). From the short amount of time that I used the call feature, I think it is grade A material. Last but not least, the gmail notification is good, but doesn't open the browser window to view mail if you are using Opera... yet (I know me and D3 are both writing angry letters tonight

)
for any of my OCC buddies who wanna contact me, my username is the same as it is here but with @gmail.com at the end

It's pretty neat. It's....white, to say the least.
Too bad I don't have anyone to talk to. If anyone wants to talk to me, add nvidiafreak1@gmail.com
(some person took nvidiafreak@gmail.com, bastid probably doesn't even know what nVidia is...

This thread is to talk about the client, service, etc. i.e. What do you think about Google Talk

Aug 24 2005, 07:23 AM
All right, I think it has a very simplistic look to it. I like how the each side of the conversation bunches together under the name, making it look very clean. I love how there are no ads (though I used DeadAIM to remove mine from AIM's interface). The color matches my desktop theme (though I know people whose themes it really clashes with).
I think it needs a lot more features before it can seriously compete with the likes of AIM (I know this is a beta program, so there should be more on the horizon). If they just make the program skinnable, then it'll be a big hit with the younger crowd, though for some reason it seems as though it's currently aimed at the elder generations (20+)
Hmm, I think that about covers my review over a beta program that I've been using for maybe a few hours at most.

Hey! You got most of that from me!
Anyway, as I said before, it's nice and simple, it's not cluttered. It's white, very white, but easy to use. It does clash with my GT3 skin though... I believe it's very well done for a beta, I have yet to experience anything abnormal that would be typical of most beta products. I sense this messenger going far in the future. I sense it also having the ability to contend with msn.

I like the look, dont really have anyone on the list that I can talk to... Dont you think it wil be difficult for them to capture market share with this if it ever gets past beta?

As said before I think this has potentiol, but it needs some more features added. Like being able to chat with other im service users like AIM, MSN, and yahoo. I like that it is ad free unlike aol, and it is pretty easy to figure out. Only real problem I have is I have no one to talk to

When I hit the X it goes to the system tray as a chat icon. Hmm you cn also check for updates. It is cool how it notifies there is a new mail. Not like yahoo where the dang thing annoys the heck out of me.

no file transfers, only allows @gmail.com (95% of my contact list is @hotmail.com) hardly any actual features right now.
its nothing special, looks nice though and connects fast... it's got nothing on trillian.

Looks pretty cool. I'm actually very anti-social at my computer though. I don't run AIM, removed MSN Messenger from my XP CD entirely (

), and have never had the need for IRC. I like the concept of boards MUCH more. Boards don't get annoyed if you don't reply within 30seconds. AIM chatters usually do. Plus, I'm pretty much ALWAYS being sarcastic, so chit-chat through text is hard for me.
But I have liked so much of what google's doing lately that I think it'll do really well. MyGoogle is just plain awesome, the search engine is pretty much a default these days, and well look at gmail. Gmail was the smartest "launch" ever. Tell people they can't something and they'll want it that much more. I nearly shat a brick when my nerd buddy called and told me he finally had invites to give me.
The calling stuff looks like it could be very handy, if it works like it appears to. I'll be following this thing's progress for sure, even though I'm far too antisocial to actually USE it

I think Google Talk is has a great foundation. I heard talk about AOL
opening up to Jabber soon so I think Talk could eventually offer
a better AIM solution than Gaim. They've got a long way to go
and I think most people were expecting more out of it's first release,
but I think it was a good idea to release the client like this in order
to break the ice and expectations of people were building up.
The more people using it in it's primative form will ensure that as
the interface develops, other bugs will get get noticed quicker
in order to create more mature releases early on.
I think Firefox could be used as a good example for this type of
situation.

AFAIK you are correct. The only option I see is a "clear all".
Also....
Please quit sending me messages requesting Google Talk, Skype, and/or any other client. The request has been passed on to LP. I can do no more.
