aight dudes.. again one of my questions that contains 3242398 questions: tongue.gif

I got 2 psus - an antec 550W, and an antec 480W. the 480's sitting around.
I get plenty of power and a rock stable system at 2.6 on air here... but my rails are usually at at least a 1/10 of a Volt under spec... 3.21, 5.35, and 11.78 when I checked.. granted this is software, I don't have a multimieter handy..

My temps stay cool and I can pass 24 hours of Prime95/folding np, but my rig reboots on load sometimes.. and since this has happened to me with multiple systems I think it's my having.. counting now as I type - 12 fans in the case. It'll reboot maybe once every 2 weeks, nothing major.

So - I wanna try something, using the 480W to power HD/CD drives and my fans (2137186271268 fans)
and leaving the 550W dedicated to my board, proc, VC.. the hungry stuff.

Any ideas of mounting another PSU on or in the case? Can I wire the PSU's to both run off the same switch? or at the least rig the auxilary PSU to an external switch?

well if you have a big case you can just cut more holes for the extra psu
to get them to start at the same time.........
just do that power on trick so that the psu is always on then just use the switch on the back. thats the easyest way i can think of.

I don't think that would be too hard to do. Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't he just combine the green and black wires of both psus in a way that they are synced? I'm not sure if there would be a voltage problem there or not.

I'll do some reearch on the green/black wiring idea.

In the mean time. Anybody know if "theoretically speaking" this might be a waste of time or is it a good idea to seperate your power needs to get cleaner juice?
BionicSniper
not really

the power that the psu will give wont be exactly on spec
there is a small percent of deviance that is still considered on spec

the best thig would be to spend 500$ on a power cleaner.....

or get a better psu

well ive run two lower spec PSUs (one mobo CPU and CD-RW the other Video, fans and HDDs) it was nice and stable and while w/o a multimeter there's no way to know even if your voltages are bad, it cant hurt. I just jumped the green/black and turned the secondary PSU on first followed by the primary.

You can always try it and see if it helps you out.

thx guys i'll give it a shot... noooooo $ to upgrade anything for a while.

How bout something like this loll laugh.gif
Lots of work with plexiglass but it looks good tongue.gif
It's a 350W btw sad.gif but drives the fans and ccfl's well wink.gif

You can make it start and stop with the on/off button or seperate so the fans continues to cool after the PC is off huh.gif been tested for years too laugh.gif
