You dont want to get a cheap psu or else you could fry your rig... I would wait another few days/weeks (whenever you next get paid) and get something of quality.

I would suggest the Aerocool 550W Turbine Power. I've seen nothing but glowing reviews, and my older Aeropower II+ 550w 20 pin psu is powering my rig perfectly (Venice @ 325x8, 1.5 gigs ddr433, 6 hard drives, 2 optical drives, x850xt pe) with the rails not even drooping at all under load.

Yes but I don't think I have to invest in a $120 PSU like a powerstream to get a good, reliable PSU.

true enough, but there are plenty of quality PSU's for under $100

go to newegg and look at the Antec's, there's like 4 or 5 nice models that fall under $100 that would power that system nicely, look at the Antec True Power's, it's way more than enough to power that rig, something like the 480 or 550, mayeb slightly over $100, like $110, but well worth it

forget pretty, if you want pretty, buy a quality PSU and mod it yourself, i have yet to see a quality PSU that has all the lights and clear panels and so on.......the companies that make quality PSU's are all about business

Stay away from cheap psu's if you are going to oc or not. and if you decide to do any led modding you'll want something with dual 12V rails.

Bigred gave me the recommendation to buy a 535 Watt enermax, to replace my old X-connect, i did fine so far. its got dual 12V rails at 18 amps a piece and 24 pin connector.


If you can't trust Bigred, then who the hell can you trust.

i too am currently shopping for one in the same price bracket you are. and i went shopping for a premium power brick. The details i found necessary are dual 12v rails. (although i see some nice 36a single 12v rail PSU's out there.) and possible SLi compliant for a future proof upgrade. who knows what youll want to get later. so keeping Bigred's advice in mind i went to find other options too. turns out that.......Bigred is right on the money as usual.

Enermax EG565ax-VEF is the best choice. it has everything you need:
-dual 12v rails (missing in OCZ's powerstream lineup till you ge to a 600w model, 33a tho otherwise)
-active PFC (missing in Antec's line)
-dual SLi connectors if you wanted to go that route...(when dual 16x pci-e arrives and 6800 prices drop)

so it has everythign you need...for $114 at newegg. im off to get one now. it for sure will help me get my memory off its butt and up into the +10% area. the only other option is the PCP&C 510w. +$100 more is alot of money. thats a waterblock and a pump right there!
(anyone have one of these Enermax badboys on a serious overclock? id be interested in seeing a 30 min. OCCT test chart on the rails.)

Another one you all should consider is the SilverStone SST-ST52F (PFC) 520Watt. It goes for $99 and has dual 12V rails, active PFC and 2 PCI-E connections.

This is what I've used on my rig for over a year now, and it's great. I was in the same position as you. This has a trusted brandname, presleeved, window, color-changing lights, and reliable power. Most of all, it's only $70 with all of its extras. For what you're running, 480 watts is overkill even with overclocking. There is no point for going higher unless you're going SLI.

Thermaltake PSUs are a bit rubbish IMO. I have that same model, it's noisy and underpowered.

Look at the Tagan 480w v.2 and the Antec NEOPower 480 if you want a good, reliable PSU.
