you DO NOT want to skimp on the psu its a very bad idea the raiting they give the bad ones is the MAXIMUM it can do however a psu like the ocz modstream 520w can give that continualy even more for a max(650w for 60 seconds i think) so i would not advise skimping on that part

I honestly don tknow what to recommend to you, but i will say, a cheap PSU will run fine now, but 3 months down the road you may either have it undervolting when OCed or have a dead mobo/CPU/Graphics card all bc you didnt spend another $40-80 on a PSU....i mean is it really not worth that little extra when your buildign a $1000+ rig?

Do not by Enermax I have like 3 or 4 go out, Antec has not let me down yet, I fold 24/7 since Christmas of 2003. I am sure there are better ones than Antec also but they have been good to me so far!

that second one u listed looks pretty good to me, does it have a 24pin adapter or do u plug the 20pin in and then a 4pin next to it somehow, i think it shows in one of the pic's, but ne1 else have ne input on that psu, i do understand the importance of a good psu, i guess bf2 will have to wait a lil longer

I'd wait till I had the money for a good PSU. You'll regret getting a less expensive one. Wait till you have the money and get an x connect or an OCZ powerstream.
so this one is good correct?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817104155and it comes sleaved so thats a definate plus, thnx for all the help guy

Enermax make some top of the line PSUs. Sorry to hear your luck with them but honestly they are some of the best out there.

Yes that is what I have always heard get a enermax or Antec. (I was suprised to see them go out myself but 24/7 going on 3 years will find the weak parts)or a good named brand, well I think I have four dead ones. My Antecs are holding up good, even some of cheap PSU 300 watt in a cheap folding machine are still going, and I have had some of them go out also. I do not give them a break all my machines fold 24/7 getting close to 3 years non stop. But my advice is the same is everyone elses do not skip when it comes to the PSU, I have a Antec 550watt for my 3.2EE that was the biggest Frys had back then. I will say this, every time one of mine goes out it gets replaced with a Antec. I have tortured these machines getting all I can get out of them for folding.
My First buy was a X-connect, its ok but for now on i will only buy CoolMax or antec's until they improve modular PSU's..

not only that but sometimes the cable length and stiffness is horrible.

My X-Connect freakin rocks! A lot of people here have knocked them, but they have strong continuous power rails. I did a lot of research before I bought mine, and never read a bad review. The new ones also have less stiff cables.

I guess you didn't read the two where the PSU literally exloded shooting sparks into one of the tester's mouths then.

He just said that he "never read a bad review". I simply meant to state that they are out there if you look for them. Glad his is working fine though.

I should be fine as long as you are careful not to get much paint on the inside.

Ulta does not make good PSU's, neither does Coolmax... (maybe some more were mentioned in this thread but I only skimmed through it

)
And enermax psu's are pretty good, dont know what happend to yours asus

hopefully it was just bad luck

If you really want modular, the OCZ's modstream might be a possibility. THe mod stream does not compware with the Powerstream line (also by OCZ) but its decent.

But just because 1 blew up doesn't mean that there all going to blow when you use them.
I am sure that there's problay been more then one OCZ ps that has blow up before.
