So I have this idea, right? I have a Lian-Li V2100B, and I've been looking for ways to increase air flow. I took the three silver plates out of the bottom of the case (if you've seen pictures, you know what I'm talking about), but I would like to increase air flow further. What I'm looking for is a hard drive cooling fan that actually mounts into its own row, but blows air vertically, rather than horizontally. The HD mounting system in the case is a little different from normal, but I think it would still work, or at least with minor modifications. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a system like this?

Here is a really poor picture of what I'm looking for.

CODE

HD mounts

|:  ^    ^    ^  :| (
|:  /    \    /  :| { these lines OBVIOUSLY represent air flowing upwards
|:  \    /    \  :| (
|:---------------:| <-- that is the HD cooler w/ fan mounted in it, blowing air vertically
|:_______________:| <-- bottom of the case with holes pre-drilled

this is probably a really bad illustration, but if anyone knows where I can find a HD cooler that mounts separately into a 3.5" rack that blows vertically, that would be great!

Like this?

kinda like that, only instead of attaching to the HD itself, I want it to mount into the 3.5" cage... does that make more sense? thanks for the quick reply!

if you want to do it like that, why don't you just add a case fan to the cage? cuz like the drive cage already has holes.

Or get the HDD cooler thta exeter showed you but instead of mouting the fan inside put the fan outside.

BTW HDD coolers just make lots of noise.

thanks for the info on HDD coolers making a lot of noise... I'm definitely trying to avoid that. About adding a case fan to the cage, that's not really what I'm trying to do. Here's an image of the side of the case.

You can see the 3.5" racks in the bottom left of the case. I would like to find a way to mount a fan in the rack right above the bottom for the holes that are drilled in the bottom of the case.

You'd be much better off mocking up something to mount an 80mm fan under the hd's...2x40s are, as stated, buzzy and annoying as hell laugh.gif

well, I think I've found kinda what I'm looking for... definitely something that I can make work.

Tweakmonster makes what they call a Dual 80mm fan bracket that installs over the PCI/AGP slots. The picture is just to give you an idea of how it mounts in to the PCI/AGP area, but I would install it flush in my application. It is held in place by standard case screws, has 2 right angles in it, and then a long bracket to mount 2 80mm fans in. I think this will work, I'll just have to check for a different mounting technique, but I also need to purchase new fans. I'm looking at the Cooler Master 6 Pack, but I don't know how well they perform. In order to keep the cooling and modding topics separated, you can comment on the 6 pack in this post.

Thanks!

I found what you were looking for, but I forgot where I purchased it from.

It mounts in a 3.5" or 5.25" drive bay and would be perfect for your situation. The bracket accepts either 80 or 90mm fans.

Edit: Found one here.

well shoot, that's what I get for staying up until 3am when all purchasing rationale has disappeared. I already purchased something so that I can do the mod, but I'll definitely keep this in mind if it fails... thanks for the link, lilkev715
