Adapt a car remote so that u can switch on the computer from across the room. Splice the power button wires so that the power button still works

Well there is countless things you could do to mod your pc...for starters you could add some fans or paint your case our cut your fan grills into some sweet designs or do some sleeving or if you have got two psu's around you can hook them together and run two power suply's....(just for looks mostly) but if you really want a unique look you could work on your lighting mayby buy some cathodes these you can find for reall cheap, you can get a better working and looking hsf....well there is countless more things you can do but if you have anymore questions about any of the sugjested above you can email me at Mav3rick88@gmail.com or just pm me ( i dont check my pm's often) lol anyways if you whant more ideas just let me know and i can domy best to help you out

1) A previous poster mention modifing a car remote to remote start your PC. But, on the cheap, you could do the same thing with the parts from a lazer tag game.
2) Paint your computer -- painting the whole thing a single color looks very nice, but I suggest you start with something simpler. Painting has turned out to be much harder than it looks, and I'm only attempting to paint my external 3-1/2" drive bay bracket.
3) Find a small cheap electrical toy and install it inside the box, on top of the box, or on the front of the box.
4) Grab a drill and start killing rivets. Standard size computer screws and #6-32 hex nuts (from HD) can be used wherever rivets were removed -- and you can put stuff back the way you want it...
5) Re-engineer cable connectors into the inside of the box. Cut a cable passage in the bottom of of the box and route cable to your computer through it...
6) Replace every single stock fan with something cooler...
7) I'm sure you've got ideas too...

Why dont you try doing something that you think will fit YOUR personality? (no rudeness intended) Alot of mods are created simply from the owners imagination. I mean, when you mod, it generally is PERSONALization for your case;)

First order of businesss: MY PERSOALITY?!? I mean, c'mon, in real life I'm a walking hazard, it's really a suprise I got my comp up and running. Usually whatever I touch breaks..... And if I was gonna make any themes that match my personality,I would probably do biohazards and nuke symbols.
Second thing: my friend (whom I shall call "Tom") keeps insistng that I install a decoy duck and put red leds for the eyes. I dunno.
Third thing: the reason I am posting this is because I don't know what to do, i just started building comps about 2 months ago. SO CUT ME SOME SLACK!!!* runs and cries*

wow everyone's suggesting crazy-hard mods... painting and remote controls? lol... my first mod was painting... and it was THE worst paint job ever... well, it was good for about half a day, then it got scratched, chipped, peeled...
so, i'd recommend against painting since it's only really worth doing properly and is about as much of a ballache as painting a car (just smaller)
remote controls? lol
i think for the first few mods you should start with the basics (yet essentials) like switching out crappy el-cheapo fans for decent ones, or possibly adding some case fans if you have a place where they can go and a fan isn't there already...
so fans... and then cabling... you've probably got a bit of a mess inside your computer, data cables all wrapped around and jumbled up with the power cables... unplugging them all and then re-thinking how to route the cables, armed with some zip-ties, and maybe replacing some ribbon cables with rounded ones is good
so fans and cable management... nice easy mods to wet your feet in the world of modding, you'll get a little more familiar with the case innards, and most probably have a neater, nicer looking, and cooler running computer...
i'd say this is what you want to be doing if you've only been building computers for 2 months and also your computer has been acting up

edit: an emachines case? good god man... rather you than me... you don't have to spend a lot on getting a different case with much better features and modding potential... while you COULD mod that case it would be analogous to modding a Buick imo

I admit that I'm one of the people who suggested some wicked hard modifications...
If you'd said you were a complete rookie (like me, BTW) I might suggested something else. For a rookie (like me), I think the best first mod is to fix the wires.
Just so we're clear: BUILDING A PERFECT WIRING JOB IS TONS OF WORK!!!
On the other hand, it's a job you can do a little at a time and without a lot of expensive tools and spare parts. As you get into it, you'll find things you want to buy (like split loom and wire wrap) but I certainly don't recommend that you drop $100 on wire management supplies from a web store and then discover you hate it...
Here's what I do: every couple of days, spend about 15 minutes staring into your computer and picture where the wires might go that would look better. Maybe you could stuff come power cables in a corner, or live dangerously and round a ribbon cable (multiple web sites exist telling you how to do this, and replacements cost about $2 retail).
Just do a little bit to your computer about once a week. That should keep you from getting too frustrated or from breaking something critical. Not only will working with the components will give you ideas for bigger job, but you'll develop the necessary skills too.
We'd all love to hear from you after you've built your custom PSU wiring harness, or installed your chrome....
Good Luck,
R.

First off, wiring is pretty easy... go get some zip ties and go to autozone and buy some plastic wire housing... Easy as pie.
Second off, I am relatively young! I don't got a freakin' job yet!! Cases are expensive (for a nice looking one); and money is hard to come by for me.
Hoping you get the idea:

Why don't you try something easy for your first mod. Put in a blow hole or something. or even sleeve your wires.

What kind of case do you currently have? If you have a beige neauty, consider sanding it down with sand paper ( For those with little money! ) and then spray paitning it with a high gloss spray paint colour, of your choice!

Well, crappy wiring is pretty easy. Beautiful wiring is also easy, it just takes much longer.
Also, for someone with limited budget (trust me, we all have a limited budget), fixing the wiring is also cheap. You've already got a handle on it. You might also want to check out the electrical offerings at your local home center. I found split loom and tons o' wire ties for cheap at Home Depot.
Of course, it costs more to get the tricked-out stuff like UV sleeving and such, but you can always upgrade a little at a time.
You are absolutely right about cases, they can be very expensive. My advice is to buy what you can afford, but keep an eye on possibilities.
A Lian Li PC-65B, for instance, isn't too expensive as good cases go -- $70 to $80 -- okay you might need some financial assistance. But, it's a beautifully-built blank canvas. You can cram just about anything into it. You can cut it apart and put it back together. You can sand it, paint it, cut it, drill holes in it, and get spare parts for it.
On the other hand, if that's too rich, get yourself a plain cheapo case, but get a look at one before you buy. Older cases tend to be made of steel not aluminum, so they're harder (but not impossible) to work. The trick is to look at the plain, ugly box and visualize what you can turn it in to.
Because you're not looking to spend bucks, you should expect to spend a lot of time and effort. You'll probably end up completing a few jobs you just HATE -- the trick will be to learn from the disasters and have a sense of humor about them...
Good luck,
R.

Also, RadioActivated, "For your own sake, stop!" A few words never hurt anyone. And if I have nothing better to say (or write), what's the use of talking?
Me and some of my friends are gonna theme some computers toward the four elements: fire, earth, water, wind. skins, we're set on; case ideas, we're not. Earth is a stumper, we have no idea what to do there; fire is easy(flames and some red led fans), water sorta complicated( my friend already has the water thing worked out, no idea what he's doing); and wind(it'll all be plexi-glass and clear fans). First, do you guys like the suggestions? Second, is lightnig an element? If so, gimme some ideas for that, please. Thirdly (a real word?), what do you guys recommend for a good paint and sand paper (or whatever you guys use for taking the paint off and creating a good surface for painting) ideal for a case painting. Lastly, anyone ever seen this done before?

That is some UV reactive sleeving w/heatshrink on the ends. I had put that on the fan when I had it mounted in the other side of the case. I chose to use that fan behind the M/B tray because it is only 15mm thick and fit perfectly.

So shut your yap if all you wanna do is complain. I'm doing what I wanna do and if you wanna throw a tantrum over what I think is different, FINE BY ME! All your doing for your self is complicating an interesting thing that I thought was different! How could it possibly bother you? You wanna be stupid? Be stupid. You wanna be different? Be different. Go ahead, You wanna get me banned by pushing my buttons, By all means go ahead. One person can speak for many, and if there are more than one of you on this board, I'll simply label this board as spoiled, because it only takes a few rotten apples to spoil the bunch.
By the way Mangar, where can I get some of that uv reactive sleeving?

Curious about my name,eh? Well, it all started about 3 years back; I just got trillain(Chat system) and sat there for (literally)days trying to figure out what my name was to be. I was a big fan of vsah the stampede at the time, so I wanted to name myself kuroneko(the cat), which means black cat. I thought," Nah, too many people will already have that name." So I got creative......Hence Mr Black Cat, a name that stuck.
