What would happen if my components on my pc consumed more watts than the PSU was rated for?

If it's a cheap one, it'll burn up pretty fast (depending on how much over and how cheap). A good one will last a while, but still burn up

With a cheap psu at power up your system would choke crash your ps would run hot and finally burn.
With a good one the inner over volt or one of them protections wouldn't let you start your system period.
