I'm building this computer for my wife. I'm actually pretty happy with how it turned out. She wanted all orange everything but the power supply had blue on it so I painted the drives to match (as close as I could get). I also can't start it yet because the Ultra PSU didn't come with a 24 pin ATX cable, only a 20 pin. It's on order. Here are the relevant specs and some pics:
Sunbeam Acrylic Case
AMD 64 3000+ w/512K cache (939 pin)
ThermalTake Venus 12 HSF
Ultra X-connect 500W PSU
Chaintech VNF4 motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 2x512 DDR400
Hitachi 80GB SATA Deskstar
Gainward Geforce 6600 RT 128MB PCI-E
UV reactive EVERYTHING

The power supply went it upside down because that's the only way the case will allow it. I guess Sunbeam wasn't considering the possiblity that one way does not fit all.

The drives look awesome and look like a perfect match for the X-Connect. Love the Orange and Blue color scheme to.

OCC colors, anyone?

Slap an OCC logo on there, and we have an "unofficial" spokesman for OCC, though, it would be better with phase change

btw, nice fish

Is it just me, or is his hard drive jus sitting there on the bottom? Shouldn't you secure that to reduce vibration?

Nice work!
About the 24 pin power supply, Don't worry about it. You can plug a 20 pin power supply into a 24 pin header and your system will run just fine. Google a bit and you will find I'm bang-on!
I should post pics of my new comp too. Check for it!

Thanks for all the compliments. There's still a little work to do. We painted all the silver hardware that came with the case gold today so it will match the screws used for securing the pieces of the case. I somehow managed to jack the floppy drive when I took the casing apart to paint it blue, so I need a new one, but in the meantime I just swapped the one out of my own computer. The hard drive isn't secured because Hitachi, in their infinite wisdom, decided to use corse threads instead of fine like the rest of the hdd community, so I have to find some special screws (the ones that came with the case are longer so they go through the acrylic but they are fine thread).
By the way, whomever posted up their koi, my wife really digs 'em. I especially like the white and black with the red spot on its head. She says your fish are worth a lot of money.

Smack 'em back.
I'll post updated pics tonight. I still don't have a floppy in it, but she's up and running on XP Pro SP2. I'm still waiting on that 24 pin ATX cable too, so I've got some wire management to do....come to think of it, I also need to remove the back panel and mount the drives. I think I'll just wait until tomorrow to post pics since I should have all the parts installed then. I also ordered some new Corsair RAM. Her motherboard does not like the Ballistix RAM at all (I ran Microsoft memtest and after 3 passes there were no errors on either stick). I guess I'll sell the gig of Ballistix. I put a 512MB stick of my Corsair XMS in and it works great.

I just thought...Could you use your Computer to heat your 100Litre fish tank...? Slap a water cooling block on your CPU and just run the pump in from the fish tank, through the block, and back in the other side...Or would that cook em?
The_WRATH
Apr 12 2005, 08:22 PM
lol if you think about it, the heat that comes off the cpu is intense, like over 100 degrees F im sure
aww, i like it when couples work on a computer together.....LMAO
team effort!

ps: give me the ballistix memory lol how much you willing to sell for

Looks nice! Good Job!
Quick question, what diffrence does it make if you use a 24-Pin or 20-Pin conector on a 24-pin board? Surely it will boot up no matte which one you use? So whats better bout using the 24 Pin? :s

The extra 4pins on a 24-pin vs. a 20-pin mb connector is an extra 12v line, isn't it? It's to help out with the 16x PCI-E slot's power demands.

Inquiring minds want to know:
How much $$ do you have sunk into that setup.
ie: case, fancy cables etc...

At first I was thinking about $1200, but now I'm thinking it was more like $800-$900. Not sure how I figured so far off initially, but I had also ordered several things for myself as well, so I probably got mixed up. I made a couple of mistakes that cost me about $20 too (ruined the first floppy drive and I ordered a PCI-E cable that I didn't need). Still, the cost wasn't too bad for a machine that could easily run DOOM3 and HL2 if she wanted.
