ok i have this old old psu that is 230w and has 9a on the 12v rail and i was wondering if i should hook it up to my 6600 gt so i can get it to stop underclocking??? Its modular and is made by Vdstec or Vostec or Vastec something like that.... i got it out of a old amd computer and i have used to to power up things beucase it has a switch not a 20 pin atx power thingy...it does work but do you guys think that it would hurt my 6600 gt untill i get my x connect back from rma. or should i go ahead and do it..?? i run my computer 24/7 so it would be running for24/7..

Its more then anough for just the graphics card. If you need it, go for it

. I'm thinking of either running 2xpsu's, or just buying a really nice one once and for all to get over this 18a@12v pos psu :/

I have 3 psus running on my bench setup. 1 for fans and 2 linked togther for the system. I have a 12v booster that I made. I have 12v and a ground line on the 2 psus connected together. It helped but is still not as good as a ncie psu. I know that people have fryed there x800xts and x850xts by hooking up a psu for them. But I think that it works much better with nvidia. If I was you I would get a voltage running on your card. Then try the psu, and see if it goes up. I know when I tried hooking up a psu to my x850xt the voltage went thougth the roof.

For you I would just hook a psu up to your 6600gt. Connect the green and a black pin on the psu's 20pin connector, so that it starts up without being hooked up to a comp.

Then it's an old AT psu, it will run if anything is attached to it.Just plug your card to it and push the switch, it will go
If you want to be sure plug a fan to it and it should run.
