Well I finnally did my first fan hole mod lol. All I did was cut out the factory grill and put some u channel molding on it, but hey... its my first attempt. smile.gif It actually looks mostly round too haha. I just used some nibblers, im cheap. But here is a pic. All i have left to do is find a 1/4" drill bit and a drill to use it so i can make screw holes and put some gromits in... Lemme know what you think so far biggrin.gif

just make sure you drill those holes in the right place (i measured from the centre of the hole in one corner of the fan to the centre of the diagonally opposite hole and used that measurement to mark the spots to drill) and you'll be set smile.gif

nice work so far

Nice! I keep meaning to cut out all my stupid fan grill things and replace them (or just leave them open smile.gif )

and nrg... would you like a fan controller any huger? smile.gif
Silverfox
.....and rizla's?? *cough - cough*. "xp-pro 2003" ? hehe.... wink.gif

still, thats a good mod. looks clean-cut and tidy. i shall *not* be cutting up my precious PC-60 - £100 new 2 years ago!

with pretty turd cooling, i am ok right now i think. need to put thermal paste on the CPU again, but, idle temps are pretty low anyways.
hardnrg
yeah... Rizla's right next to the Golden Virginia smile.gif

and er, afaik, there's no such thing as "XP Pro 2003" so ner tongue.gif
Silverfox
"office xp 2003 pro" perhaps? disc cut-off. not that i care i'm just being an ass - nothing beats KB's desktop screenie with the file "anal seepage" clearly visible for all to see.

(and we know what accompanies GVirginia...haha jk wink.gif)
Fanatic
Nrg, his workspace/desk is much, much cleaner than yours.....lol
Silverfox
....that's because it's a floor - nrg has it on his desk! laugh.gif

Fanatic

Yea, makes sense to me... i dont usually put school supplies and stuff on my floor haha
r_target
Nrg, is that a Tt fan? If so, what's the model and what are the specs? Oh yah, and stop melting your brain with that stuff.......
hardnrg
it is indeed a Tt fan... i have some 120x25 Xinrulian fans spare that i planned to use instead BUT my fan controller needs the rpm wire (ie 3pin) to control the speed... so the Xinny's would run full speed all the time and they're like 40dB :|

http://www.thermaltake.com/dcfans/standard/a1280.htm

pretty sure it's the same spec as that one, it's running at 2030rpm full speed so it'd make sense to be that one
Hyper Threaded
I want to do that to my case too, I already have the panaflo fan, just need some metal-cutting tool and the bits you put on the case. Need a drill bit too but... no drill. closedeyes.gif
CNUco2007
yea, i need a drill too. eh, i'm asking my dad if i can borrow his, and if i can im making the trip home this weekend to get it. biggrin.gif
CrackHead
If I Only Had The Cutting Skills... I have yet to attempt any sort of mod to my case that involves cutting cause I know all to well that the outcome will most certainly be disasterous, and I would never put my baby Tt case through that lol.

Good job, looks like a nice clean cut and good luck on the drilling the holes.
CNUco2007
funny thing is, the cut is pretty jagged lol I used a nibbler and i sucked at it. however, the rubber molding covers all that up biggrin.gif

It does make a big difference. Where did you get that molding? Ordered from a modding site, or is that something easy to find in home depot or such?

Good post, btw. I'm about to do my first mod ever, and it's also a fan hole. Going the dremel route instead of the nibbler....that way I can get into trouble a lot faster.
CNUco2007
i got the molding from here. Pretty cool place. Also you can look at their modified Tsunami Dream (and others). I did the nibbler thing cuz i was told the dremel can jump around pretty easy if your not used to it. plus the nibbler was cheaper biggrin.gif
Foramorm
Awesome, that rubber molding is just what i've been looking for. Yesterday I did a window mod on a side cover that's basically a piece of sheet metal with holes drilled in it. Like a big thick piece of mesh.

Needless to say, some of my cuts were less than...savory...

Now it should look pretty nice. Thanks for the link biggrin.gif

Some of you guys should just look at using a 4.5 inch hole saw. SOOO much easier then messing with dremmels/nibblers/drills. They are about $25 but well worth it after cutting a few holes perfectly every time.
Foramorm
Holes saws are really nice when doing various fan mods.

But overall, dremel 4 teh win!!!!!1one!1
DECwakeboarder
4.5 inch would be about 92mm wouldn't it? Get used to using a dremel, that's about the best thing to do. I've used mine for maybe 10-15 hours now and am finally starting to feel comfortable with it cutting just about anything.
Poopsicle Boy
nice mod eric ill do the exact same thing with the same case this summer.

yo hardnrg what are those small packets infront of your case... rolling papers perhaps... ooh naughty naughty wink.gif
Silverfox
poopsicle, see my earlier post wink.gif

4.5 inch is 114mm pretty much exactly what the actual blades of a 120mm fan are. It's perfect.
CoolMaster
I really need to learn how to use a dremel hahah cause I wanna do some moddin sad.gif
