Does anyone know where I can buy aircraft grade aluminum sheet metal?
Need 2 or 3 mm thickness.
I want to build an extra special case that is truly custom, and to suit my every need.
I've looked around on the internet with no real success.
Anyone who has information on a possible location, I would really appreciate some tips...Thanks

Most any welding shop has good sources of flat and bar stock.
Start your search with them.

Should be listed in the yellow pages as sheet metal

And i dont recommend getting it shipped if you live far from the place you buy cause it'll surely get scratched badly, get a place near or in your neighberhood and get someone to go get it with you on his or your car or truck

Yes, I have a Dremel tool, and other metal working items. I will use Mapp Gas and aluminum bars for the welding process. The welds aren't going to be of the critical type, but only need to able to hold a small amount of stress. I'm going to use stainless stell and mostly aircraft quality, polished aluminum.

This case is going to be for a mobile, heavy duty workstation. It's going to be used for video processing, and other work related tasks. I plan to use aluminum, stainless steel, plexiglass, and some plastic. It will be about the size of an aveage suitcase with a large Dell 24" flat panel monito. I plan to incorporate a DC to AC inverter. Some other items to be integrated are fingerprint security sensor, web cam, wireless router, etc. I realize this project will take some time to complete, and that is why I will slowly build the case.

wow... nice... just, do you think putting that much stuff in one case isn't gonna cause any interference?... like the router and maybe... i dunno... something else?.. also have you tried looking for those things @ home depot?... Gl w/ the case! TAKE PICS!!!

If you plan on welding the aluminum, have fun, I've heard it's really hard even for the best of welders.

Yeah, welding aluminum to high standards is very difficult. Fortunately, I have some experience with welding and a reasonable understanding of it.
The problems forseen with this project is 1. Heat buildup/ disipation 2. EMI 3.Space!
I have been looking around, and I'm really feeling like I need to start this thing.
I'm after the custom look, something that no one has ever seen before.
Ive looked at the very durable "Pelican" cases that are very weather proof.
I've looked at Aluminum premade cases but feel the are too generic.
Over the next week, 'm going to meet with a bodyshop tech that also knows how to weld aluminum. Hopefully, after he reviews my plans, he can give me some sort of estimate to weld some parts and paint the box.
With the available wireless internet connections, this should be handy to have with work. Right now, it seems the case is the most difficult part of the project!
My plans so far, I will use a micro ATX mobo.
I will post some pics as the project advances. I'm not in a hurry to finish, just to start...

while i cant weld our company mechanic prefers to weld aluminum over steel and he does both with a wire welder but then again most of our welders are certified for aluminum also as we work with aluminum tubing on every job in sizes from 3/4 to 5 inch

wow! thats some thick case. wonder if you should put shocks or a gas engine in there. =D but anyways thats going to be a huge case. why dont you just take 2 metals and put a bar in between them and weld them. so it'll be sound proof. you can even put foam inside. or mini heatsinks. =D
but thats cool what you are making. who know. make a few hundreds per case and sell them. I get first pick! i want 5% of you selling profit! muahahhahahaha
after that try to shoot the case and see if the bullet goes through.
dont forget to use a car alarm to open up the case and to turn it on. =D
