Ok I have a Dell Dimension 8300 (don't laugh =P) and I am wondering if I am pushing my PSU. It says it's a 250 watt PSU and I have read on the Dell forums that it can go up to 345
I have:
Pentium 4 @ 3.2 Ghz, 800 MHz FSB
4x 256MB PC3200 DDR 400
2 Hard drives both 120 GBs 8mb cache 7200 RPM one is a WD and the other is a Maxtor
CDRW
DVD Rom
1 floppy
1 cold cathode
ZBoard (keyboard)
MX510 mouse
Radeon 9800 pro 256MB with Artic Cooling VGA Silencer @ 9800 XT speeds
1 external USB Harddrive which is self powered by by it's own plug in.
and 2 x USB flash drives
I just added the second 120 drive back in Jan. and have been running it since then no probs.
Thanks

it is a bit much but since you are not having problems i wouldnt worry, just dont try and add a 6800ultra and expect the psu to handle it

PC Power & Cooling makes a few PSU that will work with your Dell. You can go to their website, it will help you pick what model you need.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300. I want to upgrade to a higher wattage power supply for my video card needs - 400 - 450 watts. (To use with a eVGA nVidia 6600GT which says it needs a 350W)
Does anyone know where to buy a power supply to fit my PC for a reasonable price?
I don't want to pay the gouging price of $150 from "PC Power & Cooling". That is an absolutely absurd price to pay for a power supply. I was shock to find someone charging that much! Even Dell only charges $39 for their own power supply (unfortunately they won't sell me a bigger one than 305W).
Well I looked inside. The power supply says "250W Max". So it looks like I got the el-cheapo, cut cost and corners Dell power supply.
I have 1 hard drive, a DVD drive, and a CD/DVD+RW drive. I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens. eVGA told me it would work for Windows programs like Word etc., but when playing games I may get an error message about not enough power to run the card. They said it will not harm the card, it just may not work.
