I'm going to paint my Beige Enlight Box...picked up primer at K-Mart for $3, as well as an assortment of sandpaper for $3
Kmart didnt have Clear Coat, but that was a great price on Duplicolor primer.
So Looks like I just need clear coat and color...I havent decided on color yet, but I'm leaning towards yellow, but Wheel Works and Kmart both lacked the glossy yellow I wanted...school bus yellow doesnt really excite me much...
I'm thinking more along the lines of this color:

Head on over to the auto parts store. They'll have a variety of Dupli-Color shades. Get the full-size can (s). You'll need it. Is it this case?

aight first thing....sand it down with about 300 grit. get all of the paint off. you just want to see the silver metal beneath the paint. after all that, get a spray can of primer from the auto store. Put on 2 thin coats, just make sure that you can't see much silver from under the paint, and make sure that the first coat is dry before you put the next one on.
next, put a couple coats of the actual base coat on. (also at the auto store) get about 3 spray cans (you'll need it to look good) of the color you want. spray very, VERY light coats. don't try to cover the entire surface on the first coat. it takes about 3 before you can't see anymore.
after about the 3rd coat, grab some 600grit sandpaper and sand the dry paint down lightly. this is to get out all the imperfections, such as hair, dust, scratches, etc. put 2 last coats on after that. always make sure the surface is clean before you spray.
after you've got that (don't sand after those last coats) get a can of clear-coat. take about 3-4 medium thickness coats of clearcoat, and then you're about 90% done.
wait for the whole thing to dry (about 2 days). then you can put your box back together, or if you want it to look nice, wait for the paintjob to cure for about a week, and you can take a high-quality wax, and just wax it. then lemme tell you, you'll have a definent eye-opening case.
and if you want to take it even a step further, get a polish called "Curator's Choice" at www.englishcustompolishing.com and use that as well.
hope that helps!

hmmm...i'd be weary of that kind of paint....from a spray can. it just doesn't seem natural that it would look good. i'd test it on something first, but i doubt it's cheap $$$

It looks like we have the same case, Mr. Yuck. I filled in the case badge dimple with Bondo, and drilled more and bigger holes to get more air to the 120MM behind the bezel.

I've seen the Mirage paint in action, it actually looks pretty nice. Ccokeman recently painted a case with it, and I was more impressed with the quality than I thought I would be.

that paint works...just make sure u dont have a high humidity or it will cloud up, also u have to put on like 30 coats lol, and u are gonna need alot of clear to make it look nice, and also make sure u put down black primer not grey, or it will mess with the colors, they sell a whole kit, i have done one of my atv helmets in that color paint is is awesome, but it scratches really easy so it looks like crap now..meh i will paint it again sometime

Yes, it does take quite a few cans to finish the job.

thanks for the tip, looks like I'll be taking this grey stuff back to Kmart.
EDIT: got another tip in another forum, "everything you need is in the kit" except sandpaper
aaagh!!
I am starting to feel the "when in doubt, prime" thing coming over me...

Yup...duh...

It'll be a while, as I'm trying to either find the Green and silver mirage paint locally or order it online, I found it online for $20 plus $5 shipping. Not bad since it'll be avoiding tax.

I found everything I needed at Autozone. I got some Duplicolor black sandable primer, a can of gloss black, a can of gloss white, and a can of clear coat. They had several different kinds but I ended up getting the Acrylic Enamel, so I hope that was right stuff. They also had the Mirage stuff for $19 but that isn't the look I want, and they had Acrylic Laquer. I don't know the diff between the laquer and enamel except that the enamel said it was for cars and the like while the laquer was for metal, wood, etc. I had no trouble tracking down the sandpaper there either. I got some 600, some 1000, and some 2000. Not sure if I should have gotten a larger variety of grits, but I would think this stuff will do the trick. I'm taking the paint off with 150. I've got plenty of buffing compound and wax from my R6 so that's covered. I can't wait to get started.

there's an autozone in my town, but i think it's just a garage, no store..so autobarn.com is probably my best bet.
