Full Version: Have You Tried The New MSN Search?
OverclockersClub Forums > OCC Member's Area > OCC Member's Lounge

Back in October we asked what search engine our members used most. Out of the 139 people that responded, 88.49% said that Google was their main search engine and 0.72% said MSN.

Well now that MSN has had their new search engine out for a few weeks, I thought I'd ask our members if they've tried it, and what they think about it. Maybe you've switched from Google, Yahoo, A9, or something else for MSN Search. Let us know.

Didn't know they had a new search! Just tried it... looks like an attempt at a google clone. Think i'll stick with google smile.gif

"MSN it" doesn't quite have the same ring to it as "Google it" .. :msn: ... google.gif smile.gif
Kamikaze_Badger
I tried it while it was in beta, it just looks like another nVidia vs ATi thing, only between software giants.

And Google is winning biggrin.gif.
HoLoDreaM
google totally owns msn
TechFreak
I've used many, but I find it's usually how you phrase your search that gives you the best results.
Phil
It's better than it was, but still Google for me.
lordofbeer
havent tried the new msn search, I'm stuck on google. I am just cofortable with the layout, and anyhow I find myself typing in google subconsciously sometimes when I'm not even looking for something. lol
savethedodobird
Its ugly. Its kinda like the winxp theme only worse. Plus a longer url. and its MSN I think Ill stick with google.
Mr_Yuck
I tried it, not too impressed, it's too buggy (cant just type in a search term then click the "images" button for instance, it makes you type it in again, if they fix the bugs...maybe...

I was hoping for a fresh search engine without all the sites that no longer exist or those ones that just have a gazillion links on them, with absolutely nothing to do with what you searched for but the title of the page is exactly your keywords.
DECwakeboarder
If it ain't broke, why fix it? I'll stick with google.gif
Vasto
Google: "Your mom goes to college."
MSN: *runs away sobbing*

laugh.gif Where have you been? tongue.gif It is an attempt to take on Google. Cleaner, simpler interface... but still noting compared to Google.

Yeah.. I'm not a fan of the Windows XP theme either... sticking with Google is more like using the "Classic" theme. tongue.gif

The results that the MSN search return seem irrelevant half the time.
Google is the best

Yeah, I wasn't happy with the results returned from MSN in a search vs Google just using my handle.

MSN returned back OCC Forums main page. While I don't have a problem with this, the main page really has no relevance to me. smile.gif If it had gone directly to some of my post/topics, that would have been different.

MSN also returned a link to Virtual-Undergroud, a site that I deeply despise (link, link) because of the scams that they ran for some time.

There are others but no need to go into it... I'll let the numbers speak...

For "d3bruts1d"
MSN: 1,427
Google: 6,530

For "Overclockers"
MSN: 343,587
Google: 1,820,000

For "Overclockersclub"
MSN: 10,843
Google: 82,500

I'm the same way. I tend to sometimes just sit in front of my computer and open and close my browser just to look at Google. blink.gif biggrin.gif It is second nature now when i'm searching for something just to type in Google. And thats only when I forget about the nifty Google box built in to Firefox.
Pyrthas
Ugh, it's ugly. Also, at this point, I don't see anything that it does that Google doesn't.

Even if MSN search was as good Google, Google is already sitting in the upper right hand corner of my browser. biggrin.gif

Yeah.. that's one of the nice things about having Opera or that other browser. tongue.gif

Though, with Opera I don't even have to use the Google Search box... I can just type g followed by whatever I want to search for in the address bar. wink.gif
