Can any1 point me in the direction of a $50~ PSU for the new mobo's... Eithe rthat or a converter I suppose. Which would be better?

I'll say it before somebody else does $50 PSU for an SLI board!!??? Save up some more money, no matter how long it takes so you can get a decent PSU like the SilverStone SST-ST52F which also comes with dual power connectors for your video cards.

If you don't want to spend the bucks, then just go to Newegg, select all PSUs and sort by price and see what you can get for $50.

No 50 dollar PSU (wel not today atleast) will be sufficient for an SLI setup, your looking at a 150+ psu to power that

I'm not talking like 2 video cards in SLI mode. Just the new s939 boards with the different power connectors
