I do believe that this was mentioned breifly a short while back, though i couldn't find those posts.

I am researching setting up a folding farm and was thinking that to save money i could plug two diskless computeres (motherboard, ram, processor) into one power supply unit.

Is this possible and if so, how do i do it?

I have never done electrics before so can u tell me every little detail, not matter how small.

Cheers

I think your thinking of running two PSU's with one computer. I cant see a way you could run two computers off one. hmm i guess you could splice into every single wire on that motherboard lead. then have another wire branching off every single one. But it would have to have really good Voltage on that line to be able to support two computers. huh.gif I dont think its possible, but who knows im not an Electrician. ph34r.gif

It can be done and there are members here that have done it, but it takes a great deal of work and if you are lazy like me you just spend a few extra $$ on another PSU lol.

Yes...you just need to split each wire and build a new wiring harness....

PSU must have good rails...

or... skip the pain (trust me! smile.gif) and buy a brand new PSU from Newegg for about $15

mmm yeh, that does sound like a lot of hassle and i wud hate to get it wrong and it blow the motherboards or something. I think that i will just get a psu for each one.

Cheers for your help!

I have done this and so has JudyDunbar. I cobbled up my own splitter using 2 ATX power extension cables. At the time, I couldn't find a ready-made splitter cable like this one.

It's a good idea for a diskless setup, especially since the demands on the PSU aren't all that great- you're only driving a mobo, CPU and RAM. The benefits are less power consumption and thus less heat generated, lower noise and less room needed since I'm running mine w/o cases. I bought a cheap 600W PSU from Newegg jst to be sure, but if you're going with a mATX mobo/Athlon XP set up, then I bet you could get buy with a 350W PSU with no problem. One of these days I may try to drive 3 setups off a single PSU just for grins.

Nemo, got an links to some diskless setup tutorials? I have been thinking about doing that myself.

ExtremeOC Guide to Diskless Farm is probably one of the best known ones out there.

This guy has a pretty awesome folding farm setup.

Those two should give you a start.
