anyone ever used these? did you like them? work good? etc? i hope theyre skinny and dont take up much space and can easily fit inside
CoolMaster
ive heard of cathodes exploding, but thats just something ive "heard"
Byron
I've head the inverter on the cathode catching fire, but that is due to the lack of quality in the manufacturing, and improper airflow. I have 1 ccfl in my case right now, and I' have it on sometimes. They definantly brighten the innards up :-P
HoLoDreaM
arent cold cathodes is what everyone uses though?
Fireonice

I melted the converter on mine once. Modding became less of a priorat after that incendent.

oh well.. for $5 i figured u couldnt beat the price... ill see how it goes when i get them in

EDIT:

is it possible to put a sound reactive kit on it, after its already bought?
webx
i had those before they work for a little while and then like the top portion of i for some reason started to fade out, so i replaced them with the UV ones i currently use..no problems yet...but thos lasted me about 2 months maybe you'll have better luck
suchuwato
i had two green ones on 247, but one day i started up and it want *tink and exploded, but it was inside the tube so it was ok... the other still runs
markiemrboo
I've got 4 going 24/7 for like.. a year now. Two blue, two UV. It's all good!
DECwakeboarder
Thank for pointing that out, I blew both inverters I had (one was a piece of . the other one I was messing with a multimeter, they put out over 1500 volts laugh.gif ) I'll have to order that and another inverter, 4 ccfls w00t!
BionicSniper
thoes are really good ccfl from xoxide. there not generic. there sunbeam i use them and have no prob
HoLoDreaM
is it possible to add a sound reactive kit to them after u have bought them? i think itd be cool as hell if i could set it to beat to my music or gunshot sounds
markiemrboo
Yeah, sunbeam do a sound module thing which you can plug two inverters in to. Personally ( i have one ) I don't think its all that good but... *smile*

EDIT: Good examples of when it works: http://www.asmh81.dsl.pipex.com/Video%2010.avi and http://www.asmh81.dsl.pipex.com/Video%2011.avi

It seems rare that it works that well, with most of the music I listen to, though..
wanksta
my cold cathodes are by sunbeam, i think, and they are a must in a case w/ a side window, and u found them for pretty cheap
CmpFreak88
I've always had trouble with the two Blue ones I have. When I first got it and installed it, it caught on fire in my hands... ph34r.gif There was a short in the inverter and it caused it to ignite. Then the ones I have draw waaaaay too much power for my liking and after only a month of use they began to fade. I also got mine at Xoxide on sale for about $5... be careful with them.
The_WRATH
stop! you guys are scaring me, im about to throw my cathodes in the air like it was a bomb, duck! lol
Silenc3
I blew one up once, set my room on fire, ya it was uber.
Wasent home and i live on the bottom level, thats 3 levels from where people were, no one noticed till my whole room was burnt, thank god i build the room otherwise the whole house would have gone down with regular build.
only $10000 worth of . died including my old main rig, Thank god for Insurance, still havent received all my payments. got desperate went for the 2.4a, somewhat happy setup. I miss al my Pictures though. sad.gif
The_WRATH

I believe we're allowed to say porn in the forums.

I bought two of those exact ones about 2 or 3 months ago, and I keep them running a little over 16 hours a day, and they've worked out fine so far. I had a set that came with my vantec fan controller that lasted about a year or so. They weren't that bright to begin with, so I bought the Sunbeam ones from Xoxide. I also bought a pair of red cathodes and a pair of UV ones. Right now I'm just using the red and blue ones, cuz I like my case lit up and UV doesn't do that, unless EVERYTHING is UV reactive.
The_WRATH
ok.....PORN!

think ill go green next
Vasto
Do UV Cold Cathodes have the same problems?
TheMdude
i got a pc toys dual red kit from extream pc gear and they haven't blown up or caught fire or anything. however, i have had them for all of two days and they were very pink when i got them.

i solved the pinkness tho. bought myself a box of russell stover chocolates (i love me), and used the red plastic to wrap the tubes. the color is great now tongue.gif
HoLoDreaM
thats something i would have never thought about...
