I've head the inverter on the cathode catching fire, but that is due to the lack of quality in the manufacturing, and improper airflow. I have 1 ccfl in my case right now, and I' have it on sometimes. They definantly brighten the innards up :-P

Yeah, sunbeam do a sound module thing which you can plug two inverters in to. Personally ( i have one ) I don't think its all that good but... *smile*
EDIT: Good examples of when it works:
http://www.asmh81.dsl.pipex.com/Video%2010.avi and
http://www.asmh81.dsl.pipex.com/Video%2011.aviIt seems rare that it works that well, with most of the music I listen to, though..

I've always had trouble with the two Blue ones I have. When I first got it and installed it, it caught on fire in my hands...

There was a short in the inverter and it caused it to ignite. Then the ones I have draw waaaaay too much power for my liking and after only a month of use they began to fade. I also got mine at Xoxide on sale for about $5... be careful with them.

I believe we're allowed to say porn in the forums.
I bought two of those exact ones about 2 or 3 months ago, and I keep them running a little over 16 hours a day, and they've worked out fine so far. I had a set that came with my vantec fan controller that lasted about a year or so. They weren't that bright to begin with, so I bought the Sunbeam ones from Xoxide. I also bought a pair of red cathodes and a pair of UV ones. Right now I'm just using the red and blue ones, cuz I like my case lit up and UV doesn't do that, unless EVERYTHING is UV reactive.

Jan 20 2005, 09:03 PM
i got a pc toys dual red kit from extream pc gear and they haven't blown up or caught fire or anything. however, i have had them for all of two days and they were very pink when i got them.
i solved the pinkness tho. bought myself a box of russell stover chocolates (i love me), and used the red plastic to wrap the tubes. the color is great now
