Alright i got these red 5mm leds with a red and yellow wire leading out of them how do i make them work?
InvaderTrax
What voltage are they rated for? If you go over, they'll burn up pretty quick. Take the shorter lead (side with a flat piece on the outer ridge) and hook that to negative. Then hook the other to positive and you're good

12 volts is what they are rated for

12v!!? you sure? that's quite a lot for an LED...normally they range from 1.3v-5v in these applications.

EDIT: You sure they're not 1.2?
old_oc'er
no they are 12volts and i was wrong they are 8.3mm not 5mm. They are from radio shack they have a red wire and a yellow wire.

Take the LED and look at it from the top. You should see a rim around the bottom. The side with the flat spot is the negative side. Plug that into the black wire from the PSU and the other wire into the yellow 12V wire

this is the leds that i got they are the red ones.

That must be one bright light.
hardnrg
it's not bright at all... it's 80 mcd which is about as dim as a regular led... it just has an internal resistor if it is rated at 12V...

a bright led is like 10,000 mcd...
General
what u got is an indicator LED. So u hook taht up to a circuit to see if its working. not to brighten up your case.

anyways

Take the yellow. Solder it to another yellow wire off ur PSU /
Jam it into the yellow wire of the molex connector

Take the black. Solder to black wire of PSU /
Jam it into the black wire of the molex connector

whoops my mistake.

Take the red and stick it into ur yellow wire.
take the yellow and stick it on the black wire

Dosn't really matter if you plug them wrong, they simply wont light up, then just change wires, sides whatever dry.gif

uhh..doesnt that fry the LED? i thought if you plugged it in backwards, it would kill it.

No that's the way i test them old ones, sometimes with 1mm legs. To know which leg is positive, you just take a flat mobo battery and sit the led horseback on it one leg on one side and the other leg on the other side if it does not light up, turn it around.
Doing it with a resistor attached to the positive leg on 12V is the same wink.gif
Not to test which is positive of course since you have a res to the pos one loll but you might not know which wire is your positive when doing a mod with same color wire smile.gif
