Hey guys. I was wondering what you guys thought about a laser etched case window. My buddy and I are thinking of starting a little business making these. They wouldn't be terribly expensive and could even do a custom image. The etching machine can do any hi-con JPEG image. Ill post a pic of the test etchings but my camera is .. What do you guys think?
The_WRATH
it looks sick pent
keep me updated if your gonna put up that business
got a few etching ideas in mind

Before I go through the trouble of setting up a website, I just wanted to know how much interest there is in this sort of thing.
We can do custom images if you guys like. As long as its in a JPEG format. You can send us your window, or you could buy the window premade from us with/without blowholes if you like. I want these to be TRULY CUSTOM pieces. These are for the modder that has done everything else (CCFL, LED fans, case painting, etc...) and is still looking for something else to set their rig apart at a LAN party. These aren't appliques. This is the REAL DEAL.

So you guys think you'd be interested in something like this?

And WRATH, what wrong with my avatar? I LIKE IT!!!! smile.gif
This avatar has cost me $500 dollars so far wink.gif

how much would it cost for something of that nature? i might be interested.

Yes lets have a $$$ ammount smile.gif Im sure if it's reasonalbe the answer for many ppl woud be when can you do it lol
suchuwato
i'd be interested... a nice little lego brick would be cool... laugh.gif

well, It all depends on the pic/design you want. For instance, the skulls on my window would probably cost ABOUT $20-$25. But they're not custom images. They are included in the program with the laser etching machine. Custom work would probably be done based on File Size/surface area(how big you want it). This was done simply to see how it looks and if anyone would be interested. I'll work on some more "official" numbers this week. Thanks for your posts.

I like the brick idea. I don't think that would be very expensive at all. The window would probably cost more smile.gif

If we can thes going...next will be LEDs in the edges, or maybe even a full laser etched acrylic case.

could you do a small piece of acrylic that would fit over 2 cd drive bays?
kobalt

I have an idea of doing a 13 ghosts movie theme case, there's a lot of etching involved but it'll be in glass and you must be in the US so transport might be a problem sad.gif

This would be pretty cool. I would definatly be interested.

Yes. We can do anything as long as it's a flat surface. Nothing rounded or with corners. Drive bay covers, yes. Windows/panels, yes.

I'll have to get back to you on that. My buddy is the one with the laser etching machine. He makes plaques and trophies for a living. He does all the company/team awards for the Tennessee Titans and Nashville Predators(So he hasn't been very busy this year wink.gif ).

well koolpcmods does custom window etching and they are pretty cheap, i think like 30 dollars or something and like 45 for custom, they also have great customer support, i changed my mind after i placed my order, and when i called they had already shipped mine, so they sent me another free of charge, now i have 2 lol.

Cool, I had never seen their site. They have some cool stuff. That's EXACTLY what I'm doing. Yeah, their windows are cheap, but they only use 1/8" acrylic. Which is fine if you don't mind a flimsy window.I had planned on using 1/4".
Now, I think we'll offer a choice of thicknesses. I'm glad you told me about that site. Now I can keep an eye on the competition smile.gif

I may even try to work out a discount for OCC members. If possible.

Anyway thanks for all your posts. I'll get another sample for you guys to check out and post more pics.

-EDIT- Some one asked what equipment we're using. Here is the engraver that we're using.

Yes it is expensive. They do make much smaller and less powerful versions that are MUCH cheaper.
