Trying to run an old PSU outside the PC.....

need it to run a DC battery charger....

wired things up..... put an SPST switch 'tween the green and a black wire..

put a 10w 10 ohm resistor on a 5 v line to boost the 12....

when I flip the switch..it turns on for just a millisecond and then goes off....

I am just about positive that there are no wires shorting out....

I cannot figure it out....

it started up before ... then I trimmed all unneeded wires down...

anything I should look at??

Have you tried opening the cover to look for any possible damage inside like bad caps, bare metal wire shorting it out, etc.?

Yes the cover is off.... I've cut off all the wires except for a 5v, 12v PW-ON and a few grounds......

what did you do with the nub wires? are any of them touching something? maybe they got shorted, id check.

they are all trimmed to the board... I have checked 3 times... but I will check again, cuz that is the only thing I can think is that something is shorted....arrrgh

I dunno...as I've never played with adding resistors or anything to the other lines, but is the load possibly too low on the 5v, dragging down the rails enough for it to shut off? 10 ohms is a lot closer to a dead short than most things connected to it would be I imagine.

Agreed try that 5V without the modifications.
It should work if all you've said is right, there's nothing diffrent from one ps to the next, meaning if everything is like it should it has to work dry.gif

The on then off by itself means only two things, there's an overload or short circuit.
