MY CD Burner has one of those small square LED's on it and I would like to change it out. I have like a hundred 5mm UV LED's and I was wondering how you get those little square ones out.

You'd have to take apart your entire CD burner and try and find where it is.
I would try it on an older cd drive to make sure that it doesnt screw anyhting up and that you can figure out how to put it back together.

I know where it is and all that. I took the whole thing apart to paint it a while back. I'm just wonding how in the hell those little square LED's come off. I could always run an LED from outside the drive but I want it to light up when the drive is in op.

THey're pretty easy to take apart, jsut keep in mind voids warrany (like everything we do here lol) Ive seen mods to do this for floppy drives, but not CD-ROMS. to get it apart though jsut play with it bc ive seen a few different designs so if i g into remove this 1st etc. yours may be entirely different, but it should have 4 screws in the bottom, and plastic clips holdign the face plate on. also to get teh face plate off prob. need to eject the drive and pull up on the face plate bracket that is on the tray.
IDK if that helps, but that's teh general idea, as for the led find it inside, desolder, and put a new one in it's place.

I already know where everything is. I just need to how to take out the square type LED's or if it's even possible.
Heres a pic of the LED. It's just to the right of the volume wheel.

Probably just going to have to use a solder gun and desolder the old one and attach the new one, should be too hard if you have enough room around it.
and on a side note, I have the same phone as you

haha

I guess I will take it apart again and have a look at it. For some reason my UV LED's won't work with the PWR and HD LED's. But my 5mm Blue ones will. Guess they are a different voltage or something.
Got bored waiting so I decided to chang the LED in my speakers again. Was blue and now it's UV/Purple.

DONT use a Solder GUN use a soldering iron/pencil, tat is a surface mount LED, will take very little heat to remove it, and alot of the other components are surface mount on there and are sensitive to heat. get someone to hold it with a pair of needlenose plyers, and you heat it up and they pull it off. then figure out the polarity, and solder your new LED in, either onto the board, or put some wires onto it and mount it in your drive bezel.
BTW: check the voltage on that surface mount led, they run on lower voltages than 5mm ones, you might need a resistor.
hope this helps.

All Done hehe. Just decided to run a molex out the back and use a resistor. Guess I will save a LED for when I get a new drive.
